This igloo-like home in the Catskills is NY's most wish-listed Airbnb. Here's why
An igloo-like architectural beauty tucked away in the Catskills is New York state's most desirable Airbnb, according to the vacation rentals company. The Shell House, located in Roxbury, is an "idyllic and uniquely designed four season retreat" and a "true creative refuge surrounded by nature's wonders," the Airbnb listing states.
"For those seeking a nearby getaway this spring or summer, they can find one-of-a-kind experiences in their own backyards by exploring some of the most wishlisted listings across the 50 states," the company's news release says. "The list showcases the diversity of preferences across the country, with stays that are perfect for every group, from family road trips to solo retreats."
The list was created through an analysis of guest searches comparing summer 2024 to summer 2023 and summer 2022 and for trips taking place June 21, 2025 through Sept. 20, 2025, both as of the fourth quarter of 2024.

Its five private acres surrounded by trees is an under two-hour drive from both Albany and Poughkeepsie and guests can enjoy sledding in the winter months, grilling and entertaining on the 2,000 sq. ft. patio in the summertime or staying inside and catching up on a favorite show on a rainy day.
If you're looking to spend a day out and about, the Airbnb's owner recommends a trip to Andes, Bovina or Bloomville. And for adrenaline junkies, the Shell House is close to Plattekill Mountain and Bellearye Mountain Ski Center for all your wintertime activity needs.
In need of a nice restaurant for date night? Chappie's is a short drive away. Or if you're wanting to stay in and cook, a stop at Pakatakan Farmers Market or Freshtown Marketplace in Margaretville and Roxbury Wine and Spirits in Roxbury may be the perfect choice.

While prices vary, a two-night weekend stay in early May for two could cost you around $1,700, about $2,300 in late June and roughly $2,500 in mid-January, according to the listing.
