This event looks to help hundreds of Maui charities

WAILUKU (KHON2) — The 2025 Maui Visitor Industry Charity Walk, a massive fundraiser for Maui, is coming up on May 10. 'The Charity Walk, founded in 1974 and expanded statewide in 1978, is now Hawai'i's largest single-day fundraising event by a non-profit organization. Since its inception, more than $42.8 million has been raised to support hundreds of local charities throughout the state. This year, we are aiming to raise $2 million to support 65 beneficiaries,' said Selawe Tau, hotel manager at the Westin Maui and Chair of the 2025 Maui Visitor Industry Charity Walk. Wedding scams to look out for The event will be held at War Memorial Special Events Field, and registration begins at 8:30 a.m. 'We invite the community back to our in-person event at the War Memorial Special Events Field,' Tau said. Download the free KHON2 app for iOS or Android to stay informed on the latest news 'The event will be filled with fitness, fun, entertainment, and giveaways while raising funds and awareness for our island charities. The 2.5-mile walk begins and ends at the War Memorial Special Events Arena. Volunteer course marshals will guide you along the route while our Aid Station Sponsors cheer you on and provide water and goodies throughout your morning exercise. Residents and visitors can support Maui Nui's nonprofits and community by donating to the event, pledging to a team walking in the event, registering to walk at the event, or sharing the event information with others. Individuals can register online with a $50 donation and use that to choose a team to sponsor, or donate directly to the overall event.' Tau added that many of Maui's charities were quick to act during the 2023 wildfires, and are uncertain of their future due to federal funding cuts. 'With federal budget changes, the conclusion of wildfire relief programs in 2024, and our community still recovering from the devastating wildfires, local nonprofits are facing greater demand than ever,' Tau said. Check out more news from around Hawaii 'These organizations provide many essential services like afterschool programs for keiki, elder care, youth sports programs, hālau support, conservation efforts, food assistance, and resources for special needs and faith-based groups. This year alone, 65 nonprofit groups applied for funding through the Maui County Charity Walk. Every dollar raised stays right here in Maui, directly supporting these vital programs and the people who depend on them.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
