MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — The State Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown held a ceremony Monday to honor those who lost their lives while serving our country.

More than 16,000 veterans and their family members have been laid to rest at the Middletown cemetery. Some attendees came to reflect in solitude, others went to remember those lost in wartime over America's 250 year history.
'Each stone, each name, each story – known or unknown – deserves our eternal gratitude,' Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Ron. Welch, the Connecticut commissioner of veteran's affairs, said.
For many in attendance, the names on the stones carry personal meaning, like for veteran Charles Pickett.
'For me the significance, I think about my friends when I served in Iraq and I served in Afghanistan, and the people around me who made the ultimate sacrifice,' Pickett said.
Remembrance was paid to those still missing on the battlefield, and those lost to the invisible wounds of war.
