Knicks hotel hit with early-morning fire alarm before Game 6 loss to Pacers in playoff ‘mystery'

Was a rogue Pacers fan trying to set the Knicks up for failure before they ever hit the court for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals? That was perhaps the case after Zach Lowe revealed Monday on his podcast that he had heard a fire alarm had gone off at the Knicks' hotel in the wee hours of the morning before their 125-108 season-ending loss to the Pacers on Saturday night in Indiana. Advertisement 'Apparently the night before Game 6 in Indiana, the fire alarm went off at the Knicks' hotel at about 1 in the morning,' Lowe explained. 'There's some mystery over how that happened. I checked with a couple of agents, who then checked with their players, who then confirmed that, yeah, the fire alarm went off. I think 1 a.m., someone told me 12:45, I don't think that's like — a lot of players are probably still awake then. This is kind of a young team.' There is no confirmed evidence that the incident was intentional. 3 Jalen Brunson and the Knicks fell to the Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Advertisement The Knicks had apparently been staying at the InterContinental Indianapolis ahead of Game 6, which took place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and it seems unlikely that the interruption really impacted the Knicks at the end of the day. The Pacers, led by star Tyrese Haliburton, took the series and will now meet the Thunder in the NBA Finals, while the Knicks' championship drought reaches 52 years. 3 The Pacers topped the Knicks in six games. AP Advertisement The Knicks and Pacers have a longstanding rivalry that had been at its best in the 1990s and has been reinvigorated recently, with the two sides meeting in back-to-back seasons in the playoffs. It's not the first time a fire alarm has gone off before a playoff game in recent memory. Last year, during the Panthers series against the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, a fire alarm had gone off at the Panthers team hotel ahead of Game 6, which Florida won to advance to the conference finals.

Knicks refuse to ‘doubt' core's ability to make next NBA Finals leap

INDIANAPOLIS — Jalen Brunson made his sentiment crystal clear. After falling in the Eastern Conference finals, how confident is he that this core has enough to take the next step into the NBA Finals and win a championship? Advertisement 'The most confidence,' Brunson said after the Knicks' 125-108 Game 6, season-ending loss to the Pacers on Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. 'Overconfident. Seriously, there's not an ounce of any type of doubt that I'm not confident with this group.' The Knicks made three major moves last offseason to build a championship contender. They sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Timberwolves to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns. They parted with five first-round picks to acquire Mikal Bridges from the Nets. 'It hurts to not bring an opportunity to the city for a championship. We got a bunch of great guys in that locker room and we hope to put ourselves in this position again.' The Knicks, to a man, were adamant they wanted to bring back the same core next year. But they also know that there is often inevitable reality when a group falls short of its goals. Charles Wenzelberg 3 Josh Hart reacts in frustration during the Knicks' season-ending Game 6 loss to the Pacers. Charles Wenzelberg 'You're always going to hear me say, 'Run it back,' ' Josh Hart said. 'I think you heard me say the same thing last year with the guys we had. I'd like to do it. I feel like this team is good enough to make the next step. 'But it's a business. And when you don't get to where you feel like you could've or should've, changes are made. This is my eighth year. This is my fourth organization. I've had six or seven coaches. It's tough, we're going to have to see. Don't think you can ever be too comfortable.' 'No one sees the things that me and [KAT] see every day. No one sees the type of people that we have, the workers that we have. That's what gives me the confidence, and I'm OK with that. I don't care what people think about us on the outside. I know what we've got.'

Knicks demolished in second half as dream season ends with Game 6 dud

The Knicks kept their season alive once with a win in an elimination game.
