Four-star safety Charles Woodson Jr. announced that he has been offered by Michigan. Woodson Jr. is the son of Michigan legend Charles Woodson, who played for the Wolverines from 1995-1997. Woodson helped lead Michigan to a national championship in 1997, and he won the Heisman Trophy that season as well. Charles Woodson Jr. is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #243 player in the 2027 recruiting class, the #23 safety and the #26 player in the state of Florida. Woodson Jr. currently attends Lake Nona High School in Orlando, FL. Because of the family history with the Michigan football program, it seems like the Wolverines probably have a good shot at eventually landing a commitment here. After Charles Woodson finished up his Michigan career, he was drafted fourth overall in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. Woodson ended up playing in the NFL for 17 years, and he also spent a good amount of time playing with the Green Bay Packers. The New Year has been very good to Charles Woodson Jr. The Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona High School defensive back has not only added his first scholarship offers, but has seen bigger and bigger programs jump in on the hot streak. Advertisement It hit another level on Wednesday night when Michigan came calling. The son of the former UM Heisman Trophy winner and NFL legend of the same name, Jr. also got to experience the news with his father simultaneously. "The secondary coach (LaMar Morgan) called my head coach a week ago," Woodson Jr. said. "Then the head coach (Sherrone Moore) told me and my dad to call him. "We're pretty excited about it. I mean it's where my dad went so it's pretty special and it's a huge program so it means a lot." The rising-junior prep recruit has of course been to Ann Arbor in the past, where he was able to experience the legacy he now has an opportunity to continue. Could Michigan have another Charles Woodson in the secondary? Charles Woodson Jr., the son of Heisman winner Charles Woodson, posted to social media on Wednesday that he had been offered by the Wolverines. The younger Woodson is a defensive back in the high school class of 2027. According to Rivals, Woodson is a three-star recruit and the No. 41 prospect in the state of Florida. He plays at Lake Nona High School and is listed as the No. 11 nickel corner in the country. Advertisement The elder Woodson currently serves as an analyst for Fox and recently became a minority partner in the Cleveland Browns ownership group. Woodson, 48, won the 1997 Heisman Trophy and was the first defensive player to win the award. He won the award as a dynamic player starring on Michigan's defense who also played offense and returned kicks. Woodson had 11 catches for 231 yards and scored three offensive TDs that season while also return 33 punts to go along with seven interceptions. That performance propelled him to the No. 4 pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. Woodson played 11 seasons with the Raiders over two stints with a seven-year tenure in Green Bay in between. Over the course of his NFL career, Woodson was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and was a first-team All-Pro selection three times. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 along with Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, John Lynch and Drew Pearson.

June 5 - Looking to land the son of the school's most recent Heisman Trophy winner, Michigan extended a scholarship offer on Wednesday to Charles Woodson Jr., a rising high school junior. The younger Woodson is a defensive back at Lake Nona High School in Orlando. According to On3, a composite of ranking sites has Charles Woodson Jr. as the No. 31 safety in the Class of 2027 and the No. 284 overall player. Charles Woodson Jr. tweeted, "Blessed to receive an offer from Michigan!!!!" The 5-foot-11, 160-pound recruit is the son of the 1997 Heisman Trophy recipient who is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Per On3, Charles Woodson Jr. previously received offers from Syracuse, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Florida State and Baylor. He amassed 53 tackles, one interception and two passes defensed last season as a sophomore for Lake Nona. Charles Woodson played for Michigan from 1995-97. As a junior in his final collegiate season, he led the Wolverines to a share of the national championship while playing largely as a defensive player but making key contributions on offense and in the return game. He went on to play 18 seasons in the NFL with the then-Oakland Raiders (1998-2005 and 2013-15) and the Green Bay Packers (2006-12).
