I tried Walkers Worcester Sauce crisps and now understand what the fuss is about
Back in 2022 Walkers discontinued it's popular Worcester Sauce crisps causing an entire country to cry out in unison. "Hang on.....@walkers_crisps have discontinued Worcester Sauce flavour?!?!?!? This is outrageous, we need to petition to bring these back immediately," one fan said on X (formerly Twitter) at the time. Another person added: "What the hell @walkers_crisps Worcester Sauce was the best flavour crisps that you did! You need to bring them back asap!!!!" A third person commented: "Errrrr what?!!! Walkers have discontinued making the Worcester Sauce flavour crisps. This is a crime!" Hang on..... @walkers_crisps have discontinued Worcester Sauce flavour?!?!?!? This is outrageous, we need to petition to bring these back immediately. — Steve Dorsett (@SteveDorsett) October 6, 2023 But the same group of people, that just years before had been left heartbroken, rejoiced upon news Walkers was bringing back Worcester Sauce crisps to the UK. At first, the "little purple bags of joy" were only available at Charlie's Convenience Store in Worcester. Now Walkers Worcester Sauce crisps are set to land on shelves at retailers across the country on Monday (March 17). I never understood the unconditional love some people showed towards these previously discontinued crisps, until now. Having grown up in Australia, I never had the opportunity to try Walkers Worcester Sauce crisps. So when I finally managed to get my hands on a packet I was intrigued to see what all the fuss was about. I now completely understand why people queued up in Worcester and have been spending ridiculous amounts on eBay to get their hands on a packet of these delicious crisps. I'll be honest, I'm on the fence when it comes to Worcester Sauce in general, so I went into this taste test fully expecting not to like these crisps. How wrong I was. From the moment I took my first bite I was hooked. That slightly tangy, but not overpowering flavour was delicious. I was transported back to eating crisps as a child in Australia, many years ago, as they reminded me of Smith's Lightly Tangy chips (or crisps if you're in the UK). After trying Walkers Worcester Sauce crisps for the first time I am now completely hooked. (Image: Patrick Glover) So now I am left wanting more. I have one packet left in my kitchen which I dare not eat, as I want to savour it, just in case I am unable to get another packet. RECOMMENDED READING: Walkers confirms this popular flavour of crisps has been discontinued Who has the best crisps? I tested Walkers and supermarket brands to find out I went looking for discontinued chocolates still on sale in UK - here's what I found But it also leaves me wondering, along with thousands of fellow crisp-lovers across the UK, why Walkers discontinued the popular crisps in the first place. They truly are Walkers' best crisp flavour and I'm glad I have only just discovered their deliciousness, otherwise I'm not sure how I would have coped these past few years. So I now issue a plea to Walkers - please never take away Worcester Sauce crisps again. Walkers Worcester Sauce crisps will be available in retailers across the UK from Monday, March 17.

Crisp giant makes U-turn after fans show outrage over snack only sold in Worcester
A CRISPS giant has made a major U-turn in their decision to sell a famous flavour of crisps only in Worcester. Walkers has apologised to fans after they expressed outrage that the Worcester Sauce flavour would only be served in Charlie's Convenience Store in Barbourne Road. Many people had flocked to the store to get their hands on the limited edition flavour, which made many fans feel left out. The crisps will be on sale across the rest of the UK from March 17. A spokesperson for Walkers said: "On reflection, maybe we shouldn't have just limited the sale of Walkers Worcester Sauce flavoured crisps to only one store in Worcester. "Fans, we've heard your outrage loud and clear. "We're working hard to make them available for everyone to enjoy the beloved flavour - which is now even more Worcestershire-y with Lea & Perrins' iconic sauce." Fans had gone to social media to show their outrage at the move to only sell the crisps in Worcester. One, @tripleeatsfood, wrote: 'NATION WIDE RELEASE NEEDED RIGHT NOW!!!' And another fan, @krissie.p74, added: 'Bring them back everywhere. Best crisps ever.' COMEBACK: Shamsher Singh and Kanwalpreet Kaur, directors of Charlie's Convenience Store celebrating the return of Worcester Sauce crisps (Image: Newsquest) The popularity of the crisps flavour has been massively felt by the city based convenience store Charlie's who have almost sold out. A business spokesperson said it had 89 boxes of the crisps, all of which are gone. Charlie's is expecting a new flavour delivery in the next few days. People had travelled far and wide to celebrate the return of Worcester Sauce crisps on March 4, which led to Walkers completely taking over the city. Large inflatable crisps, signs and people dressed in the packet's colours had popped up to mark the day.

Beloved Walkers' flavour returns to UK – but there's only one place you can buy it
A fondly-remembered crisp flavour is set to make its return to the UK next week after years off shelves – but with one major catch. For a limited time, snack fans will be able to pick up a packet of Walkers Worcester Sauce crisps for the first time since they were discontinued in 2022. Many were dismayed at the disappearance of the classic British flavour, but can now experience it once again. That is, if they're willing to make the trip to Worcester, the only place the new flavour will be available to buy. The single stockist in the country will be Charlie's Convenience Store, an unsuspecting off-licence just north of the city centre. Expect long queues on Barbourne Road as Worcestershire Sauce fanatics descend on the West Midlands city on Tuesday 4 March. The location is famous for being the birthplace of the oft-mispronounced umami-conjuring condiment in 1837. It was created by pharmacists John Wheeley Lea and William Henry Perrins, who combined vinegar, anchovies, garlic and other ingredients to create the original version of the sauce that would go on to take the world by storm. To this day, it is still produced in the Midland Road factory that the pair built, and distributed in the US, Canada and beyond. The brand's collaborations with Walkers had been a mainstay on British shelves for many years, but shoppers began noticing a gradual decline in its availability. Following intense questioning on social media, the crisp brand's Twitter / X account said: 'Hi, we're sorry but Worcester Sauce flavour is no longer part of our range.' Dismay ensued as many expressed their disappointment at the loss of their favourite flavour. One social media user said: 'Errrrr what?!!! Walkers have discontinued making the Worcester Sauce flavour crisps. This is a crime!' Even money expert Martin Lewis weighed in on the debate, taking a characteristically pragmatic approach and recommending fans instead try the Worcestershire Sauce offering from Seabrook crisps. Other brands that sell crisps in the iconic flavour include Tayto, M&S own brand, and even Walkers' own French Fries spin-off. But for those for whom these offerings are just not the same, they can head to Worcester next week to relive the glory days and get their hands on that iconic purple packet. They have to act fast though, as the flavour will only be available while stocks last. A statement from Walkers reads: 'They're back. They're even more Worcestershire-y with Lea & Perrins sauce. But they're only being sold in Worcester. 'A limited supply will be exclusively available at Charlie's Convenience Store, 59 Barbourne Road, Worcester. See you there on Tuesday 4th March, 10am.' The event marks only the latest Walkers-Heinz collaboration, with the brand last year teaming up with the condiment giant to produce ketchup, salad cream, and even baked bean flavour crisps.
