UK Proposes Relaxing Building Society Rules to Boost Growth

The Bank of England said on Thursday it's looking to abolish a set of restrictions on building societies known as the sourcebook. Charlotte Gerken, the BOE's executive director for UK deposit takers supervision, said removing the rules on building societies' treasury and lending activities would have 'a significant impact in enhancing competition and supporting growth in the UK.'
