Notre Dame fencer takes gold

Notre Dame fencer takes gold Chase Emmer spearheads a strong day for Notre Dame men Notre Dame fencer Chase Emmer has won his first individual championship. Emmer won the men's foil on Friday, giving the Fighting Irish an individual national title in eight straight NCAA championships going back to 2017. Notre Dame extended its lead in the men's competition to 10 points over Columbia/Barnard and 11 over St. John's. The Fighting Irish had 87 points after the second -- and final -- day for men's competition. Notre Dame fencing now has 46 individual titles, 22 for the men. There have been 10 NCAA individual foil titles for the Irish men. Emmer was 17-6 in round-robin competition, which earned him the No. 2 seed for the knockout round. Teammate Ziyaun Chen also went 17-6 in the round-robin and he was the No. 3 seed for the knockout round. This meant Chen had to face Hemmer. Hemmer won 15-11 to advance to face Harvard's Andrew Chen. Hemmer won 15-10. Radu Nitu won the silver medal in sabre for Notre Dame, while Ahmed Hesham tied for third.
