Helping a nonprofit could get you thousands of dollars

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —If you want to test your luck and help a nonprofit this week, there's the perfect opportunity coming up for you. The Furniture Mission works hard to get people the things they need to furnish their homes. While many people donate furniture as a way to help, there's another way you can help, that could also benefit you in the end. Duffy, Kelly to fill school board seats 'Chase the Queen is a newer event to the furniture mission. We did it a couple of years ago at Golf Addiction. This year we are blowing it out of the water. It is sponsored by Mattress Firm, and it is hosted at the Crowbar on Minnesota Avenue,' Furniture Mission executive director/CEO, Janean Michalov said. 'You get to come and buy raffle tickets for your opportunity to draw a card if your raffle ticket is drawn, then you get to be the one who chooses the card that night. You have the opportunity to win 10% of the pot that night, and then the opportunity to win half of the whole pot,' Mattress Firm, franchise owner/board treasurer at Furniture Mission, Paul Hollister, said. So far, the jackpot is over $30,000. 'There are 33 cards left in the deck. The jokers are included in this deck because The Crow Bar has decided to also, if you draw a joker, give a $50 gift card to the winner,' Michalov said. Money raised during the event will go to help the Furniture Mission purchase a new moving truck. 'We're down. We had about four trucks for the last few years, and a blown motor took us down to three,' Michalov said. 'And that's huge for us because, not only do we go out and we pick up furniture, but we also deliver furniture to those who don't have an ability to pick it up themselves,' Hollister said.
