Eagles' Maturity Stands Out After Former Safety's Comments
Eagles' Maturity Stands Out After Former Safety's Comments originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last season, Philadelphia Eagles safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was one of the older veterans on the defense. Being 27 years old isn't exactly "old" in today's NFL, but he was in comparison to the rest of Philly's defense. Advertisement Age doesn't equal maturity, though. After Philadelphia traded Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans this offseason, the veteran safety took the time to trash the organization for how they moved on from him. 'I feel highly disrespected, but it's a business,' Gardner-Johnson told Aaron Wilson of Houston's KPRC 2. 'Never was an All-Pro or Pro Bowl [selection]. Never. Led the league in interceptions. What more do you want?' Gardner-Johnson is an outspoken player. He wasn't the only one on the Eagles roster last year. The difference between some of the players on the team? Maturity. Despite all the comments Gardner-Johnson has made over the last few months, the Eagles locker room has been silent in response. Philadelphia's young roster has been focused on repeating as Super Bowl champions. Advertisement They don't have time to worry about what a former player is trying to say about them, their coaches or their organization.. Maybe that will change, But amid the trashing? The maturity from the Eagles young room might be another big reason why the champs are considered a favorite to repeat as Super Bowl winners. They aren't worried about sidebar stories like the one Gardner-Johnson has become. They have a goal to reach. That maturity level is something that Gardner-Johnson, should he choose to embrace it in his career, could be beneficial for him in Houston. Sometimes things need to be said. But sometimes, silence is golden.. Eagles ‘Most Underrated' Rank Tells Notable Story
The Philadelphia Eagles have become one of the best teams in football due to their draft record. Over the last four drafts, Philadelphia has acquired Pro Bowl and All-Pro caliber players on both sides of the ball. One of the best stories over that time, though, has been the use of UDFAs for the team. Advertisement And no undrafted free agent has been a better story than starting safety Reed Blankenship. Signed by the team following the 2022 draft, Blankenship has grown not just into a solid starter on the team, but a great leader as well. Through three seasons, Blankenship has recorded eight interceptions and has been a consistent player on a defense with three different play-callers. Despite that continuous change, Blankenship seems to be just scratching the surface on his career. And that is why PFF writer Jonathon Macri believes he's the most underrated player on the roster. "On a Super Bowl-winning roster, there will always be some unsung heroes whose contributions might get overlooked, and Blankenship stands out," Macri wrote. "As a former undrafted free agent, Blankenship has assumed a locked-in starter over the past two seasons and delivered an 87.2 PFF coverage grade, which ranks eighth among 129 qualifying safeties since 2022." Advertisement The Eagles traded away Chauncey Gardner-Johnson this offseason in the hopes one of their younger stars in Sydney Brown or Andrew Mukuba step up. A big reason why the feel confident, though, is that they have Blankenship to lead the young players through the struggles of an NFL season. And that shows just how important Blankenship has been throughout his career. Related: Eagles Most Massive Loss Ranks As Surprise

All-Pro Safety Signing With Eagles Predicted By NFL Analyst
Even after the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Texas safety Andrew Mukuba with their second-round selection, there have been analysts and fans around the league who are looking for the team to make one more move. Philadelphia's need along the defensive side of the ball is highlighted in the safety room. They traded away Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans, and could use some extra leadership at safety moving forward. Advertisement That is precisely why Jeffri Chadiha said the Eagles "make too much sense" for the team to sign veteran free agent Justin Simmons to a deal. "This one makes too much sense. Simmons is a two-time Pro Bowler and four-time second-team All-Pro who played some of his best football for the Denver Broncos when current Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was that franchise's head coach (2019-2021)," Chadiha said. "The Eagles also have an opening at safety after trading C.J. Gardner-Johnson following last season's Super Bowl win over Kansas City. "Gardner-Johnson's ballhawking skills were an essential part of Philadelphia's stellar defense. Simmons could bring the same talents to the Eagles, as he's familiar with Fangio's system and known for taking the ball away (his 32 interceptions rank tied for fifth among active players)." Simmons has openly campaigned to end up in Phillly this year to play under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio - his former head coach when both were in Denver. Advertisement Philadelphia is looking to get younger, though. Simmons is on the wrong side of 30, and coming off a down year with the Atlanta Falcons. It may make a lot of sense for both sides, but that doesn't mean it is going to happen anytime soon.
