Suspicious vehicle investigation leads to firearm, narcotics arrest
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An Iredell County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Island Forest Lane in Mooresville on Monday, April 28.
Upon arrival, deputies located a white Cadillac Escalade matching the description provided. As they approached the vehicle, they made contact with a male occupant, later identified as Chazman Antonio Houston.
The deputy immediately detected the odor of marijuana and observed a loaded Taurus G3 9mm handgun in plain view on the driver's side floorboard.
When questioned about the firearm, Houston fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies.
During the arrest, it was determined that Houston, who is currently on active probation and a convicted felon, was in possession of approximately 8.51 grams of cocaine, 10.60 grams of marijuana and $193 in cash. The drugs, cash and other evidence recovered were consistent with the sale and delivery of narcotics.
Houston was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. He is facing the following charges:
Felony Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Cocaine
Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substances
Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana
Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia
Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer
Houston was issued a $50,000 secured bond.
Additionally, Houston had two outstanding Orders for Arrest in Iredell County for Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, three Misdemeanor Probation Violations and Driving While License Revoked. He was issued an additional $6,000 secured bond in connection with these outstanding charges.
