Solano County Cherry Fire 100% contained at 52 acres
( —Fire crews have reached 100% containment of the Cherry Fire in Solano County, Cal Fire announced Tuesday morning. According to the agency, the fire started Monday around 1:15 p.m. near Cherry Glen Extension Road north of Vacaville. Cal Fire said that 16 engines, two dozers, four water tenders, two handcrews, two air tankers and one helicopter were assigned to the fire. By 4:45 p.m., crews had reached 70% containment. Fire breaks out in Vacaville where crews were conducting prescribed burn
(KRON) — Crews are responding to a fire that broke out Monday afternoon in Vacaville. The fire is located near I-80 and Cherry Glenn Road. Some homes are potentially threatened by the fire, according to fire officials. Cal Fire and Vacaville Fire District crews were already in the area conducting a prescribed burn, officials posted on X. Fire officials told KRON4 there was no connection between the fire and the prescribed burn. The fire is dubbed the Cherry Fire, which has burned 49 acres, officials said. The fire was burning at 'a moderate rate of spread.' As of 2:30 p.m., forward progress on the Cherry Fire has stopped, KRON4 has confirmed. This afternoon, VFD also responded to a paragliding accident around 12:15 p.m. Officials say a subject fell approximately 50 feet 'down the rocks.' This is a developing story. Check back for updates. Cherry Fire, visible from Interstate 80, burns nearly 50 acres near Vacaville
A wildfire ignited on a dry hillside along Interstate 80 near Vacaville Monday and blackened 49 acres of rolling grasslands before firefighters stopped its growth. Cal Fire spokesperson Jason Clay said the fire broke out just after 1 p.m. on the north side of Interstate 80 near Vacaville. It was visible to motorists. Dubbed the Cherry Fire, the blaze ripped through tall dry grasses and 'moved uphill quickly.' The fire threatened to burn toward homes on Pleasants Valley Road. Dozer drivers cut firebreaks along the fire's edges and aircraft dropped retardant. 'Aircraft were hammering that (northwestern) flank pretty hard,' Clay said. Fire officials said the fire's forward progress had been stopped by about 2:45 p.m. and was about 50% contained. Cal Fire law enforcement officers were investigating the fire's cause.
