'Do I get to keep that?' -Oklahoma City Thunder's Chet Holmgren gets emotional while reading a letter from his younger self

With the NBA Finals just around the corner, players from both Oklahoma Thunder and Indiana Pacers are going through practice sessions and trying to stay mentally strong. Ahead of the NBA finals, Chet Holmgren of the OKC Thunder gets emotional after reading a time capsule letter written by his younger self. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The letter contained advice for his future self and what he had hope off him. Going through the letter brought back memories from the past, after which Chet said that it's not a full circle moment yet. Chet Holmgren gets emotional after reading a letter from the past On June 5, Wednesday, NBA and OKC Thunder posted a video on Instagram showing Chet Holmgren reading a letter that his younger self wrote back in 2022, when Holmgren was first drafted. The letter had some great advice for the future Chet, and as he went on to read the letter, he expressed gratitude and got a bit emotional as well. The letter read, 'I hope you stayed true to yourself and the grind. No matter the circumstances or the outcome, keep choosing what got you here.' He further went on to express that though it is not a full circle moment yet, he will be working harder than before. Chet further went on to ask whether he can keep the letter with him, to which the team said yes. Holmgren is a 23-year old basketball player who plays for the Oklahoma Thunder as the team's power forward and center. His massive height of 7-feet-1 gives him an edge over his opponents. Besides, he is the tallest player in the Thunder and as been showing great performance throughout the season. Chet was first drafted by the Oklahoma City thunder back in 2022 and has been playing for the team since then. This will be Chet's first NBA finals, making it all the more special for the future star player of the Thunder. The OKC Thunder will face Indiana Pacers on June 6, for the Game 1 of NBA Finals. Another big Shai Gilgeous-Alexander game, another third-quarter run earns Thunder Game 2

Minnesota played better in Game 2. Anthony Edwards was much more himself attacking downhill, he shot 8-of-12 in the paint on his way to 32 points for the night. In the first half, Minnesota's bench was 7-of-12 for 19 points, and as a team the Wolves hit nine 3-pointers before the break. Minnesota looked much improved, yet at the half the Timberwolves still had a 106.4 offensive rating (10 points below their season average) and trailed by 8. Then in the third quarter the Thunder took control. Just like in Game 1. Their pressure defense forced five Timberwolves turnovers, OKC got 12 points off those and went on a 19-6 run, and by the end of three, Minnesota was down 22 and trying to play catch-up. Cason ↗️ Chet ↘️ 💥💥💥 They couldn't. Minnesota got as close as 10, but the game was never in doubt, and the Timberwolves were more frustrated than anything. Jaden McDaniels shoves Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ' I just wanted to foul him for real. I wasn't even mad I just had fouls to use,' Jade McDaniels said of the foul, which was ruled a Flagrant 1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander looked every bit the MVP with 38 points and eight assists and Oklahoma City held on for the 118-103 win. Oklahoma City now has a 2-0 series lead, with Game 3 Saturday night in Minnesota. Gilgeous-Alexander's 38 points was his fifth straight game with 30+ points these playoffs, becoming the only Thunder player to accomplish that (which is impressive and maybe a little surprising considering the Thunder's history and who came through there). SHAI SHINES ON #KiaMVP CELEBRATION NIGHT!! ⚡️ 38 PTS ⚡️ 8 AST ⚡️ 3 STL Receives the Michael Jordan trophy and takes a 2-0 series lead in the West Finals 🏆 From the opening tip, Minnesota's plan of attack was clear: Attack the rim to try and open things up, get 3-point attempts on kick outs (not settling for them as happened in Game 1). On those 3s the Timberwolves were 5-of-10 in the first quarter, keeping the game tight, despite shooting 3-of-14 inside the arc to open the game. The Timberwolves' ball movement was better. OKC starting the game 1-of-8 from 3 in the first quarter helped. Things changed in the second half of the third quarter when Oklahoma City figured out the Minnesota zone, forced turnovers and went on the run that changed the game. Jalen Williams finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Chet Holmgren added 22 points for OKC. JDUB & CHET HELP SURGE the THUNDER to a 2-0 SERIES LEAD ⛈️ Jalen: 26 PTS | 10 REB | 5 AST Chet: 22 PTS | 4 REB Game 3: Saturday, 5/24 at 8:30pm/et on ABC McDaniels finished with 22 points, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker had a strong game with 17 points off the bench. Through two games, the Thunder have looked much the better team. Minnesota needs to find a way to flip that in 48 hours, or this series will be all but over.

Detroit Tigers World Series hero Chet Lemon dies at age 70

Detroit Tigers World Series hero Chet Lemon dies at age 70 Show Caption Hide Caption 1984 Detroit Tigers stars Chet Lemon and Alan Trammell reunite in 2024 1984 Detroit Tigers stars Chet Lemon and Alan Trammell reunite at Comerica Park during the World Series celebration on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024. Former Detroit Tigers center fielder Chet Lemon, a member of the 1984 World Series champions, died May 8 at his home in Apopka, Fla. He was 70 years old. "He was sleeping on his reclining sofa," Gigi Lemon, his wife, said. "He just wasn't responsive." Since Chet retired from the Tigers in 1990, he suffered a series of clots and at least 13 strokes, leaving him unable to walk or talk. He was diagnosed with polycythemia vera, a rare blood disease that causes bone marrow to make too many red blood cells. Over the past 30 years, he had been to the hospital more than 300 times. In September 2024, Lemon returned to Detroit for the Tigers celebration of the 1984 World Series champions. That year, he hit .287 with 20 home runs in 141 games, leading the Tigers alongside Alan Trammell and Kirk Gibson. During the celebration, Lemon and Trammell shared a personal moment in a suite at Comerica Park, surrounded by their teammates. "You know how much you were a part of us," Trammell said to a giddy Chet. "We wouldn't have won it without you. You know that." It was an emotional reunion. "I'm so thankful for the time we spent together last summer," Trammell said in a statement. "Today is a sad day or us. He will be dearly missed." "I think it added some more months," Gigi said. "He was able to see his teammates. I thought that was so important." After returning to Florida, Lemon moved into his own home. He threw out the first pitch at a college baseball game at the University of Central Florida. He was going out to restaurants and spending time with his family. He seemed happier. "The trip to Detroit, I think, it just sparked him," Gigi said. "I don't know the medical terms, or if there was such a thing as more blood flowing through some areas, but he just seemed to be so happy." Lemon played in MLB from 1975-90, making his MLB debut with the Chicago White Sox at age 20. He spent the final nine years of his career, beginning in 1982, with the Tigers — traded from the White Sox to the Tigers for Steve Kemp in November 1981. He was a three time All-Star: 1978-79 with the White Sox, and 1984 on the Tigers' most recent World Series champion. "Chet was the kindest of men and always had that great smile on his face," Lance Parrish, former Tigers catcher, said in a statement. "He was also a fierce competitor on the baseball field and a great teammate. I loved him like a brother.' "I always believed my job as a pitcher was made easier when Chet was behind me in center," pitcher Dan Petry said in a statement. "I'll never forget his laughter and infectious smile. His athleticism on the field always stood out, but he was an even better teammate and friend." The Oakland Athletics selected Lemon with the No. 22 overall pick in the first round of the 1972 draft out of Fremont High School in Los Angeles. He was born in Jackson, Miss., but moved to Los Angeles when he was six months old, raised in Compton, Calif. After his playing career ended, Lemon began coaching youth baseball in Florida. He served as the head coach at Eustis High School, leading the Panthers to a state championship in 2003. He also founded Chet Lemon's Juice, an elite travel baseball program that produced many future MLB players, including Prince Fielder and Zack Greinke. Our last update: I saw something beautiful on Chet Lemon's 70th birthday. Tigers fans helped make it happen "The Detroit Tigers join all of baseball in mourning the passing of Chet Lemon," the team said in a statement: "While he was a World Series Champion and All-Star on the field, perhaps his biggest impact came off of it. That includes creating the Chet Lemon Foundation, and dedicating much of his post-playing career to youth baseball development." Lemon was first married to Valerie Jones, with whom he had four children: Geneva, born in 1972, Chester Jr. in 1977, David in 1981, and Marcus in 1988. The couple divorced in 1990. In the early 1990s, Lemon married Gigi Partee, his wife of more than 30 years. They had one daughter, Brianna, born in 1998. "At this time, memorial information has not been set," Chet's youngest son, Marcus, shared on Instagram. "We will be posting information in the coming days. But at this time as a family we want to thank everyone for their kind words and support." Tom Hanks joins son to recreate iconic Forrest Gump Savannah bench scene for music video

Tom Hanks sat on the Forrest Gump bench again, in a sense, just not in Savannah and, well, not exactly the famous Forrest Gump bench. It was a replica version of the bench from the scenes at Savannah's Chippewa Square as Hanks' son, Chet, performed scenes from the famous movie during a video for the song 'You Better Run' by his band Something Out West. Chet dressed in the blue checkered button up, gray suit and white Nike sneakers like his father in the famous film. He sat with a box of chocolates at the beginning of the video as a white feather fluttered in the sky. Tom joined him on the bench about halfway through for a brief appearance. It's unclear where the video is shot, but the background resembles a city park. Something Out West, with co-creator Drew Arthur, was formed in California but moved to Nashville, the heart of country music. "Their move to Nashville refined their sound, blending distinctive vocals, timeless storytelling, and contemporary influences that honor the genre's roots while pushing it forward," the band's website states. In Forrest Gump, the title character played by Tom Hanks sits on a bus-stop bench retelling his extravagant, often unbelievable life's story. He does so while waiting on a bus in the middle of Savannah to take him to see his love, Jenny. So, is that bench still in Chippewa Square? Much to the dismay of tourists, the actual park bench is no longer there. The bench on display at the Savannah History Museum on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is not the bench that you see in the movie. In fact, it's one of a few replicas made and distributed by the production company after the movie wrapped. The original bench is on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles. Actor-musician Chet Hanks, whose famous father Tom Hanks won the Best Actor Oscar for Forrest Gump (1994), is now spoofing the iconic character. Chet and his longtime friend Drew Arthur's country duo Something Out West has a new music video titled "You Better Run" that's all about Forrest, the inspirational character who's famous for recounting his amazing life to strangers while sitting at a Georgia bus stop. In the video, Chet is seen offering up chocolates on the bench beside Tom, riding on a boat similar to Forrest's shrimp boat "Jenny" (inspired by Robin Wright's character), and partaking in a cross-country run. Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen (Melvin and Howard, 1980) will be joining Season 2 of Netflix's hit comedy A Man on the Inside, alongside her husband, Ted Danson. Steenburgen will take on the role of Mona Margadoff, a former musician who knows something about that season's mystery. Danson returns as Charles Nieuwendyk, an aging father and widower who gains a new lease on life when he is hired to help out a private detective agency. Season 1 was named one of AFI's 2024 TV programs of the year and received nominations at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Danson. Paramount On April 18, the Museum of the Moving Image in New York will introduce a new exhibit that's all about Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible film franchise. The museum pieces will honor Tom Cruise, who plays the big screen version of the classic field agent Ethan Hunt, as well as tease the eighth feature film, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, due out in theaters May 23. The Museum of the Moving Image said, "The exhibition will spotlight star and producer Tom Cruise' exceptional commitment to practical stunt work, and explore how the series combines technical ingenuity, personal discipline, and artistic commitment, all in service of storytelling, character development, and performance." The Palm Springs International Film Festival has unveiled its dates for the 2026 calendar year. The 37th annual event will run from Jan. 2 to Jan. 12, with the awards gala scheduled for Friday, Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
