MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man could be facing charges after allegedly speeding while driving while impaired before crashing and killing a passenger in his vehicle, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Around 8:20 p.m. on Friday, May 30, troopers responded to the crash on I-77 South near mile marker 39 in Iredell County. Officials said a 39-year-old man was driving south in a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 when he lost control, drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. The passenger, 43-year-old Timmy Hillard Hartsoe Jr., was also transported to a local hospital, where he sadly died, highway patrol said. Investigators believe speed and impairment are contributing factors in the crash and say charges are pending. I-77 South was closed in the area for about two hours during the on-scene investigation. Editor's note: Video is from a previous story ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Festus, Missouri, man has been charged after attempting a daring escape from authorities following a bi-state police pursuit. According to the St. Louis County Police Department's probable cause statement, the pursuit began around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, on eastbound Interstate 70 near the Blanchette Bridge in Earth City. Police said officers attempted to pull over Jack J. Roper (age not provided), who was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck bearing Audi license plates. Roper swerved toward a police vehicle during the pursuit, police said. Officers eventually spiked Roper's tires. Subscribe Now Police said Roper stopped on the bridge, got out the truck, and threatened to jump from the bridge into the Mississippi River. Officers attempted to talk Roper into surrendering, but he grabbed a piece of lumber from the truck and tossed it into the river before jumping after it. Roper left behind two people in the truck. One of the individuals told police they did not want to be involved and told Roper to stop multiple times. Police said they located Roper at the water treatment plant in Riverview, thanks to the use of the St. Louis Fire Department's boats. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Roper with two counts of second-degree assault, one count of aggravated fleeing a stop or detention, and one count of second-degree kidnapping. (WKRG) — A 16-year-old from Navarre, Florida, was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after a weekend crash that officials said was caused by another person driving under the influence. A Dodge Nitro SUV, driven by a 61-year-old Navarre man, was going north on State Road 399, when he veered into the southbound lane and hit the truck, the release said. The 16-year-old was taken to an area trauma center with serious injuries, the release said. During the crash investigation, troopers conducted a DUI investigation on the SUV driver, who was arrested and charged with DUI-traffic crash resulting in serious bodily injury, according to the release. FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed an 82-year-old man from Ferrum in Franklin County on April 28. VSP said a 1991 Chevrolet S-10, driven by 82-year-old William Page Thompson of Ferrum, was heading east on the Franklin Turnpike around 9:28 p.m. on Monday when he went off the right side of the road and hit a tree. Two displaced after car crash into Roanoke home Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was not wearing his seatbelt. CLAY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Two people are dead after a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Clay County on Saturday morning, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Brenda Campbell, 59, of Talladega, was killed when the Chevrolet S-10 she was driving left the roadway, hit a tree and overturned. Homer Gallahair, 58, of Talladega, was a passenger in the pickup truck, and he was also killed. Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Alabama native Rick Bragg looks back on the Oklahoma City bombing 30 years later Campbell and Gallahair were reportedly not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
