Two people seriously injured in head-on collision on Route 165 in Voluntown

State police are investigating a head-on crash early Tuesday on Route 165 in Voluntown that seriously injured two drivers. The two-car crash occurred around 4:45 a.m. in the area of Beach Pond Road, according to Connecticut State Police. State police said a Chevrolet Silverado K1500 driven by a 33-year-old Plainfield man was traveling east on Beach Pond Road when a 2020 Land Rover traveling west crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with the Silverado. The Chevrolet driver was extricated from the vehicle. According to police, he suffered serious injuries and was flown via Life Star to Rhode Island Hospital. The Land Rover driver, a 22-year-old man from South Windsor, was also extricated from his vehicle. State police said he was transported to William W. Backus Hospital with serious injuries. The Collision, Analysis and Reconstruction Squad responded to the scene to conduct the ongoing investigation, state police said. According to state police, Route 165 was closed for the investigation. A driver was extricated from a pickup truck and taken to the hospital after striking a fire hydrant, a snowbank and a telephone pole during a crash in Plainfield on Tuesday night. The crash was reported at 11:45 p.m. in the area of 89 Mill Brook Road where crews were dispatched on the report of a pickup truck versus a telephone pole crash, according to the Plainfield Police Department. Police responded along with members of the Plainfield Fire Department and the American Legion Ambulance service. Police said they found that a 53-year-old man was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 east on Mill Brook Road when he swerved off the southbound side of the road and struck a fire hydrant and a large snowbank. The truck then ricocheted to the northbound side of the road and stopped after striking a telephone pole, according to police. The Silverado sustained heavy damage, leaving the driver trapped inside. Police tried to pry the door open before firefighters used the jaws of life device to extricate the driver, according to police. He was evaluated by medics and taken to Backus Hospital for suspected injuries, police said. The Silverado had to be towed away. The crash remains under investigation.

PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Plainfield police say a driver was injured after crashing a pickup truck into a fire hydrant and telephone pole on Mill Brook Road Tuesday night. Emergency crews were dispatched to the crash in the area of 89 Mill Brook Rd. around 11:45 p.m. Driver arrested for fleeing motor vehicle accident in Plainfield Investigation revealed a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 was traveling eastbound on Mill Brook Road when it left the road and struck a fire hydrant and a large snowbank, causing it to ricochet off the northbound side of the road and strike a telephone pole. Police said the crash caused heavy damage, effectively trapping the 53-year-old driver in the truck. Fire crews were able to free him using the jaws of life.
