Hillsdale County crash kills 18-year-old passenger

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A crash in Hillsdale County led to the death of an 18-year-old passenger yesterday. Michigan State Police reported in a Facebook post that troopers from the Jackson Post were dispatched to the area of Genesee Rd. and Bunn Rd. in Jonesville for a single-vehicle crash at around 7:00 p.m. Police say the driver, a 16-year-old male from Litchfield, Michigan, was traveling eastbound on Genesee Rd. in a 2006 Chevy Silverado Pickup with two additional passengers. The driver lost control of the vehicle while driving around a curve, went off the road, and hit a tree stump. Police say the crash caused one of the passengers to be thrown from the truck. Neither the driver nor the passengers were wearing seat belts. One of the passengers, an 18-year-old man from Jonesville, was critically injured during the crash and was transported to Hillsdale Hospital, however, he died at the hospital. Police say the driver and the other passenger, a 16-year-old male from Homer, Michigan, sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment on the scene. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this crash. This is an ongoing investigation.
