Two men acquitted by jury in Dodger stadium attack following Elton John concert

Two men accused of a brutal attack at the Dodgers stadium parking lot following a 2022 Elton John concert have been acquitted of battery and vandalism charges after a four-week jury trial. A jury on Thursday found Chad Reeves, 44, and Reese Hopkin, 40, not guilty of battery causing serious injury to Jaime and Lillian Grenfell, a married couple in their 60s. Hopkin was also found not guilty of vandalism related to a bystander's cell phone that was broken during the incident. The pair were charged in 2023 after a video of the Nov. 17, 2022 incident went viral. Jaime Grenfell suffered serious injuries and was knocked unconscious by Hopkin. Prosecutors also alleged Hopkin grabbed the phone of a man recording the incident and threw it to the ground. At trial, defense lawyers said the video showed only a portion of the incident. Reeves' attorney, Glen Jonas, argued the viral video was "edited," and claimed that Jaime Grenfell "attacked'' Reeves and a woman, but it was not shown in the video. They argued that Reeves came to the defense of Jessica Santi, after Grenfell initiated an altercation with her. In their narrative, the Grenfells' SUV mirror struck Reeves and it led to yelling, and then Jaime Grenfell got out of the SUV and came toward Santi and struck Reeves first, according to court records. As to Hopkin, the attorneys argued that he only became involved in the conflict when his wife, Lindsay Hopkin, was allegedly assaulted. Jonas said the evidence he and attorneys Raffi Manuelian and Dilan Patel presented showed Hopkin knocked out Jaime Grenfell with a punch to the face when the alleged victim tried to reengage in the conflict, Jonas said. "These two innocent men — Mr. Reeves and Mr. Hopkin — were falsely prosecuted by a District Attorney's Office that refused to look at the case objectively," Jonas said, blaming former Dist. Atty. George Gascón for the charges. "Let's not judge people based on what we see in the social media." The Grenfells have sued Reeves, Hopkin and the Dodgers over the incident, alleging there was inadequate security that night — something the Dodgers deny. In the lawsuit, Jaime Grenfell alleges that he and his wife "suffered a head injury in the attack and other contusions and wounds and she witnessed her husband's beating and his resulting injuries." New Castle couple charged with auto theft, forgery and perjury

ANDERSON — A New Castle couple have been charged with several felony counts for the alleged theft of a vehicle from a relative. Christopher Ryan Baker, 34, and Barbara Baker, age not available, were charged, following an investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Department, on felony charges of fraud, auto theft, forgery and perjury and a misdemeanor charge of exploitation of a dependent adult. According to a probable cause affidavit, Scott and Todd Shaw reported the theft of a vehicle and lawn tractors Jan. 9. Court documents show the Shaws were granted guardianship of a relative residing at the Countryside Manor nursing home. Barbara Baker obtained a death certificate for the recently deceased David Baker, claiming to be a blood relative, according to the probable cause affidavit. But the Shaws told police that Baker was not a blood relative. Barbara Baker transferred the title to the Chevy Tahoe into her name last December, court records show. The listed price of the vehicle was $0. When police interviewed the woman at the nursing home, she said Barbara Baker didn't have permission to take the title to the Tahoe. On Feb. 7, officers found the Tahoe in New Castle, according to the charging probable cause. Christopher Baker presented a document that showed the woman signed over the Tahoe and two lawn tractors to him, the court document states. The signature on the document didn't match that of the woman at the nursing home, according to the affidavit.

FHP seeking information on I-4 shooting

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking information regarding a highway shooting that happened earlier in May on I-4. On Sunday, May 11, at around 6:30 a.m., victims reported that a dark colored sedan pulled up beside them and fired at their car, a Ford Edge, hitting just below the front door handle on the driver's side. The sedan then drove up behind another vehicle, a Chevy Tahoe, and followed it as it exited onto US-301. The sedan fired on the Chevy, which continued on US-301 until colliding with a utility pole near Franklin Road. After the crash, the occupants of the Chevy fled on foot and were chased by two masked assailants from the sedan. The occupants were able to elude the assailants and only sustained minor injuries from the crash, but the suspects remain at large. Evidence recovered from the scene indicated that both the Chevy and Ford were struck by .40 caliber bullets. No victims were wounded from gunfire. Oklahoma Motorcycle Cop Pulls Sheriff Over For Speeding

Read the full story on The Auto Wire We hear stories of friction between some police departments and sheriff's offices, but bodycam footage of a cop pulling over the sheriff for speeding, who proceeds to chew him out for the audacity is something footage was shared by the local Fox news station in Oklahoma City as an OKCPD motorcycle officer first clocks a white Chevy Tahoe going 58 mph in a 45 zone, then pulls it over. As he officer approaches the driver's window, he realizes the driver is Sheriff Chris West of Canadian County. Apparently, Sheriff West has a reputation for being a bit of a jerk. Immediately, the officer tells the sheriff his intention is to just write him a warning. But it's obviously the sheriff is miffed at this. When the motorcycle cop returns with the written warning, that's when Sheriff West says something about when he was a state trooper, he 'never did this,' referring to 'when (he) stopped cops.' While the audio isn't clear, it sounds like the sheriff says he didn't even issue a warning to fellow law enforcement as 'a professional courtesy.' A lot of people don't like that because it's the rules for thee, but not for me mentality, a double standard that cops don't have to obey the same laws as everyone else. After all, we can guarantee if we were caught doing 58 in a 45 mph zone, we'd just get a ticket, not a warning. Yet the sheriff is incensed that he gets a warning, which comes with zero consequence. Is he just insulted that he instead isn't congratulated, given a cookie, or told he's doing a great job? In response to the little temper tantrum the officer is subjected to, he tells he sheriff he could 'just not speed' and there would be no problem. That's when Sheriff West says he isn't going to contact OKCPD's chief to complain, which could be taken as a veiled threat. The officer responds to that, telling the sheriff, 'You're as big of a jerk as I heard you are.' Apparently, the guy's reputation precedes him. Watch the entire bodycam footage for yourself here.
