Accused in antique idol theft case nabbed in Mumbai
The Idol Wing CID arrested a person in Mumbai for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of an antique idol in Pudukottai.
When a Idol Wing CID team was inspecting vehicles at the Alathur Junction on Pudukkottai-Tiruchi Main Road on March 19, 2024, they intercepted a vehicle and arrested Ajithkumar and two others, besides seizing an antique Amman metal idol worth ₹20 crore from them. During this, Raja alias Manojkumar fled the spot. The investigation revealed that Raja worked abroad.
A Look Out Circular was issued against him on April 2 this year. In the early hours of May 16, Raja was detained at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport in Mumbai. After receiving the information, the officers of the Idol Wing CID arrested him in Mumbai on May 18 and brought him to Tamil Nadu.
He was remanded in judicial custody by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Madurai.
