Arab League Chief Meets Senior Chinese Communist Party Official
Mohamed Mandour Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit met Monday with Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee and head of the party's Publicity Department, at the League's headquarters in Cairo. Li, who is also Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, is visiting Egypt as part of a regional tour that includes Tunisia and Morocco. According to Arab League spokesman Jamal Rushdy, Li congratulated Aboul Gheit on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Arab League and the successful conclusion of the Arab Summit held in Baghdad on May 17. He also expressed China's desire to deepen cooperation with the Arab world. The two sides discussed several issues of mutual concern, including the Palestinian cause. Aboul Gheit praised China's longstanding support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and its broader support for Arab causes. Aboul Gheit highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between the Arab world and China, emphasizing mutual trust and respect. He also noted the progress made in relations since the establishment of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in 2004, and expressed hope for the second China-Arab Summit to be held in China in 2026. Both parties affirmed their commitment to supporting the Arab-Chinese League of Think Tanks and moving forward with the signing of the cooperation protocol associated with its founding memorandum of understanding. They also stressed the importance of translating key works between Arabic and Chinese. The two sides also discussed the Global Civilization Initiative, viewing it as a valuable platform for intercultural dialogue and intellectual exchange. Xi Jinping Congratulates Iraq on Presiding over the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad
Baghdad - INA Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Iraq on Saturday on its presidency of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, expressing his country's commitment to joint efforts with Arab countries to deepen mutual political trust. In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Chinese President said, "I am pleased to extend my special congratulations to the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, and the leaders of the Arab countries and the League of Arab States, on the occasion of the 34th session of the Arab League Council at the summit level." He added, "Since its founding 80 years ago, the Arab League has strived to promote the Arab world's unity and self-strengthening. It actively voices the unified voice of Arab states and works to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East. Amid rapid changes unseen in the world in a century, and the complex changes currently taking place in the Middle East, Arab states are committed to independence, promoting development and renaissance, and advocating for justice and fairness, which has played a positive role in strengthening the momentum of the Global South." He emphasized that "relations between China and Arab states have witnessed flourishing development in recent years, which has contributed to deepening solidarity and cooperation between these developing countries." He added, "We unanimously agreed with the leaders of Arab states during our attendance at the first China-Arab Summit in December 2022 to work hand in hand and with all our efforts to build a China-Arab community in the new era, which has opened a new chapter in the history of China-Arab relations." He pointed out that "the 2026 Riyadh China-Arab Summit will mark another important milestone in the history of China-Arab relations," explaining that "China has always viewed relations with Arab countries from a strategic and long-term perspective. Looking to the future, China will remain a reliable friend and partner of Arab countries, firmly standing by the just causes of Arab countries." He explained that "China is keen to make joint efforts with Arab countries to deepen mutual political trust, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and advance hand in hand on the path of modernization for each country, building a China-Arab community with a shared future at a higher level."
