Ranking of All of Kim Kardashian's Met Gala Looks, From 2013-2024
Ever since Kim Kardashian made her Met Gala debut in 2013 for the theme of 'PUNK: Chaos To Couture,' she has become a staple on the invite list. Every year, she shows up in something people talk about for weeks after, both for good and for bad, and she somehow picks something that gets everyone talking. In case you missed it, Kardashian attended for the 2025 Met Gala: 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' where she donned something adhering to the dress code: 'Tailored for You.' Not only are we going to check out all of Kardashian's looks, but we're going to rank them from best to….not the best. So, below, see our definitive ranking of all of Kardashian's Met Gala looks, from 2013 to 2025. For more Met Gala coverage, including couples on the carpet, shocking looks, and behind-the-scenes moments, check out our full coverage here! While it's a stunning maternity look, especially since it's a custom Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress, it wasn't on theme at all. It was pretty, don't get us wrong, but that wasn't it. For 'China: Through The Looking Glass,' Kardashian rocked this sheer, silver mermaid-style gown, which was a crystal-embroidered Roberto Cavalli gown. Now, at the time, Kardashian said on Instagram: 'Tonight's inspiration! Cher at the 1st ever Met Gala. I just met her and told her this photo was my inspiration for my dress tonight! She is so beautiful! So happy I met her!!' It's a stunning look, but it had nothing to do with the theme of Chinese artistry in fashion. In 2014, Kardashian channeled old Hollywood glamour in this navy Lanvin gown. The theme was to honor the designer, Charles James, and his sculptural designs, so this subtle dress fits quite well with it! The 2017 gala was paying homage to Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo and her label Comme des Garçons, who was all about unconventional pieces and avant-garde subjects. So, for the event, Kardashian wore a white Vivienne Westwood gown. It may seem quite minimalist, and it is, but it shows the 'in-between' subject of the theme. So it's technically on theme, but it felt more like any other red carpet look rather than the Met Gala. Kim Kardashian's Margiela by John Galliano dress at the 2024 Met Gala was a lot. Many were worried about her since she revealed she could barely breathe in the cinced corset, and many were confused by the ratty grey sweater. She described it as a 'wildest night of my life in a garden' and said she grabbed her boyfriend's sweater as a 'last minute' addition, per Vogue. Was it on theme? Eh. Was it fabulous? Of course, and it showed that she sees the Met Gala looks as an art form. Kim Kardashian's gold Versace gown at the 2018 theme of 'Heavenly Bodies' was stunning, don't get us wrong. It featured gold chainmail, a cross design on the front, and it was a look inspired by the 1997 Versace couture show dress. While we love a good homage, and while she looks gorgeous in it, it just felt flat compared to all the other luxe looks that theme brought out. The 2016 theme of 'Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology' brought out the robot in Kardashian, who decided to rock an armored-style robotic look from Balmain. It was on theme, and it was quite a hypnotic look! One of Kardashian's most divisive looks was back in 2021, when she donned a Balenciaga look that covered up her entire body. It was supposed to be a commentary on anonymity and cancel culture; and heck, it got everyone talking. While it's not anyone's favorite, it is one of her most daring. Honestly? We loved Kardashian's look at the 2023 Met Gala. Not only was it an interesting design, obviously since it was made by Schiaparelli, but we loved that Kardashian utilized pearls since Karl Lagerfeld did that in so many designs. Kardashian's look for the 2025 Met Gala, themed 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' brought out the best in her. Not only is this alligator-skined, tailored dress from Chrome Hearts fit her perfectly, but it's on theme! Who could forget when Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe's actual Jean Louis gown at the 2022 Met Gala, celebrating 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion?' Some loved it, some hated it, to put it lightly. It was to show one of the most iconic dresses in American entertainment, and honestly? We can say this much, it is a dedicated look. Kim Kardashian's look for Camp: Notes on Fashion is, by far, her best Met Gala look to date. It's a custom Thierry Mugler dress, which was the designer's first new creation in 20 years. It set in motion the 'wet' trend in fashion and beauty, and it's still one of the best looks to ever grace the Met Gala.

Seeing double? Zendaya and Anna Sawai stun in nearly identical Met Gala looks
Zendaya and Anna Sawai shared a standout twinning moment at the 2025 Met Gala, where the spotlight was just as much on style synchronicity as it was on the theme: Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Held on Monday, May 5, at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this year's fashion extravaganza drew an electric mix of glamor, culture, and couture. Among the most talked-about pairings of the night? Zendaya, 28, and Anna Sawai, 32, who both turned heads in nearly identical crisp white ensembles. Zendaya, a Met Gala regular, arrived in a custom Louis Vuitton zoot suit designed by Pharrell Williams, who also served as one of the event's co-chairs. Her sharp three-piece suit featured a matching tie, wide-brimmed hat, and a sparkling brooch pinned just beneath her back collar. Sawai, making her Met Gala debut, walked the carpet in a look so similar it sparked immediate fashion buzz. Her Dior ensemble echoed Zendaya's in almost every detail, from the collared shirt to the white tie and wide-brimmed hat. The only major difference? Sawai's trousers were wide-legged, while Zendaya's flared at the hem. The Shōgun star's entrance firmly placed her among the evening's most memorable debuts. Zendaya's appearance marks her seventh time attending the Met Gala, all of which she's graced solo. Her Met Gala journey began in 2015 with a sculptural Fausto Puglisi gown embroidered with sun motifs, in line with the China: Through The Looking Glass theme. She made annual appearances through the end of the 2010s, famously embodying a light-up Cinderella in 2019 for the Camp: Notes on Fashion theme—a tribute to her Disney beginnings. Meanwhile, Sawai is new to the Met Gala scene but certainly not to fashion's radar. Her debut couldn't have been more fitting, given the evening's homage to Black style and dandyism, rooted in historical expression and modern tailoring. Announced by Vogue back in October 2024, the co-chairs for this year's gala included Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair. The evening also featured a high-profile host committee including Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Usher, and Angel Reese. The event raised funds for the Costume Institute while spotlighting its spring 2025 exhibit, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The exhibition draws from guest curator Monica L. Miller's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, with Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge, explaining that it explores 'the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.' This year's dress code, Tailored for You, emphasized the artistry of menswear and suiting, and few embodied that message better than Zendaya and Sawai.

It's Met Gala Monday! The first Monday in May is reserved for the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute fundraiser in New York City, orchestrated by Vogue's esteemed editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. The event has been unofficially been called fashion's biggest night, thanks to the array of meticulously-crafted looks from the hottest designers modelled on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art by the who's who of film, music and fashion. Last week, we asked Yahoo Canada readers to weigh in on some iconic Met Gala looks from the past. More than 7,600 votes were cast — and the results might be surprising. Keep reading to learn more about who our readers thought has won — and lost — the Met Gala red carpet Click here to learn more information about the 2025 Met Gala and this year's theme Blake Lively's architecturally-inspired gown at the 2022 Met Gala was a clear winner for best dressed, having earned more than 53 per cent of reader votes. The look was designed by Atelier Versace for 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion' and featured a reversible skirt that mimicked the oxidization process of the Statue of Liberty. Lively's show-stopping turn on the museum's steps where she quickly transformed her dress was a memorable Met Gala moment that's certainly hard to top. Rihanna's bold canary gold ensemble at the 2015 Met Gala earned her second place in our Met Gala best dressed poll with 14 per cent of votes. The dramatic look embodied the theme of "China: Through The Looking Glass" and took more than 50,000 hours to create. The Kardashians and this custom Schiaparelli look aren't for everyone. The star's ensemble at the 2023 Met Gala "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" featured more than 50,000 pearls, but it was a swing and a miss with Yahoo Canada readers. Kardashian's look was dubbed the worst of the Met Gala, earning 45 per cent of reader votes. Woodley's Joan of Arc-inspired look at the 2018 Met Gala skewed more Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz than an homage the theme of "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination." The Ralph Lauren look earned 19 per cent of reader votes to earn the title of runner-up for worst dressed. Earlier this year, the museum's Costume Institute announced its 2025 exhibition, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.' The exhibit is based on the 2009 book by Monica L. Miller 'Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.' The exhibit includes 12 sections that each represent an element of dandy fashion with particular focus on dress in the United States and Europe Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook (a space for dancing, drinking and enjoyment) Heritage, Beauty, Cool and Cosmopolitanism. This year's Met Gala co-chairs include actor Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams. Historically, a dandy was a man in the late 18th and early 19th century who was meticulous about his clothing, grooming and styling. Dandy fashion focuses on superb tailoring, meticulousness, an appreciation for the effort and passion for clothing. Men who were considered dandies were passionate about clothing and their appearance to the point that it was both criticized for their preoccupation and obsession with beauty and aesthetics while simultaneously impacting the way society looked and dressed. They were, in a sense, an early influencer whose fashion was usually a step ahead of everyone else. Dandyism as a movement wasn't necessarily entirely superficial. Some dandies embodied almost a spiritual and intellectual appreciation and understanding for beauty as a whole. 'Genius dandies' elevated the aesthetic and title to something larger than material goods. Black dandyism at its core is a sign of power and rebellion. Black men embodied the idea of a 'self-made' man within a society designed to suppress them starting in the late 1800s. Clothing, specifically dandy-inspired clothing that was meticulously tailored and styled, was a symbol of access to finery, an appreciation for beauty and the ability to move beyond social constraints of class and race. The concept of Black dandyism has expanded to describe the power and impact of Black people and their style on society and traditionally white spaces. In modern day, Black dandyism has been used as a way to describe how Black men created a cultural shift in power dynamics using clothes in sports and entertainment. An example would be how NBA players transformed pregame and red carpet attire from a traditional suit to looks that express their unique sense of style. These looks not only change how people behave and dress within these structures, they simultaneously impacting the way the rest of society dresses — whether or not they are given the credit. Most designers use the Met Gala theme as a jumping off point to explore an element of the exhibit itself. For this year's exhibit, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," some designers may play literally to the aesthetics of the 18th or 19th Century dandy, with era-appropriate attire and simply adopt the element of attention to detailing and grooming. But don't be surprised if some designers take direct inspiration from Black dandies in history like entertainer George Walker, sociologist and editor W.E.B. Du Bois or poet and activist Langston Hughes. Some may also choose to pay tribute to women who broke cultural barriers like author Zora Neale Hurston or entertainer and WWII Resistance fighter Josephine Baker or embody style elements of the Jazz Age. Similarly, some guests may dress in drag to exhibit the traditional dandy style. Others may take the expansive view of Black dandyism and choose to showcase looks from prominent figures in music and entertainment from the '70s, '80s, '90s or '00s.
