Over 26 tonnes of garbage removed from Srirangam after car festival
Tiruchi City Corporation has cleared over 26 tonnes of waste from the streets of Srirangam on Friday and Saturday after Chithirai Ther by engaging around 185 sanitation workers.
The garbage, mostly leftover food, disposable leaf plates, and puja items, were cleared from Chithirai Veedhi, Uthirai Veedhi, Amma Mandapam Road, Gandhi Road, Panchakarai Road, Kollidam Flood Bank Road and nearby streets in Srirangam.
A total of 75 sanitation workers were deployed on Friday night to clean the streets and about 110 workers were engaged from morning till evening on Saturday. Officials, including supervisors, inspectors, and health officers, monitored the work. 'An additional 20 workers will be deployed till the festival ends,' said an official.
About 19 light commercial vehicles were utilised for waste collection. The collected garbage was sent to the Ariyamangalam dump yard for segregation and processing.
