Aaron-Wooi Yik clear first round at Singapore Open

(AFP pic) PETALING JAYA : Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik progressed to the second round of the Singapore Open today by defeating Danish pair Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard in straight games. In a match similar to their quarter-final encounter at the Malaysia Masters last week, the Malaysian world No 3 duo took 44 minutes to beat the Danish pair 21-19, 24-22. The Danes nearly forced a rubber match when they had game point five times in the second set, but Aaron-Wooi Yik put up another confident display to knock their rivals out of the World Tour 750 series. Fellow Malaysians Junaidi Arif-Yap Roy King also advanced to the second round after beating Adam Eloi-Leo Rossi from France 21-13, 21-18 in just 36 minutes. Malaysia's top mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie will also feature in the last 16 tomorrow after clearing their first round matches yesterday.
