He now has one last chance to have his appeal considered. But the decision not to end the process has shocked some experts. Prof Anthony Glees, from the University of Buckingham, said: 'Choudary clearly remains a highly dangerous terrorist and radicaliser who is now trying to make a monkey of English justice with his latest appeal. 'What the British public see here looks like an unending desire to pander to him, every time he raises a complaint. "This has got to stop. 'Our courts need to say to tell him 'we're done'. "Choudary has exploited Islamist separation units, most recently to mentor vile Abedi, they are clearly no longer fit for purpose.' The Sun revealed in April how the hate cleric used £367,000 in legal aid before his conviction for running a terror group from his London home.

Fury as evil hate cleric Anjem Choudary racks up £367k legal aid bill paid for by YOU

The huge sum emerged as the 58-year-old faced questioning over a horrific attack on prison officers. 1 Evil Anjem Choudary has racked up a taxpayer-funded legal aid bill of £367,000 Credit: PA He has been linked to Manchester Arena terrorist Hashem Abedi, 28, who allegedly threw boiling oil at guards and used blades made from metal trays in the separation unit of HMP Frankland, Co Durham. Fellow inmate Choudary — branded Britain's worst Islamist radicaliser — was reported to have encouraged him. In 2024, Choudary was jailed for life with a minimum of 28 years for directing a terror group. Freedom of Information figures show he got £211,823.91 in legal aid for his trial. Previously, £154,883.23 covered his defence at a trial in 2016. Choudary has reportedly used the European Court of Human Rights to ensure he and other Islamists were not deprived of entitlements, such as access to kitchens — which was where the Frankland attack happened. Security intelligence reports had previously identified his potential malign influence on the inmates. Intelligence expert Prof Anthony Glees said: 'Not a penny should have been released until the Legal Services Agency has tested each claim. 'The link between Abedi and Choudary shows separation units are doing the exact reverse.' The Ministry of Justice said: 'Legal aid is paid to representatives to ensure a fair trial.'
