Rivals250 safety Joey O'Brien commits to Notre Dame
Notre Dame continues to build a strong 2026 recruiting class, as priority four-star safety target Joey O'Brien committed to the Fighting Irish on Friday. O'Brien picked Notre Dame over fellow finalists Clemson, Penn State and Oregon. He took official visits to each school, and previously had an official visit to Tennessee that he ended up canceling. Advertisement The Fighting Irish hosted O'Brien for his official visit in South Bend this past weekend, June 13 through June 15. At Notre Dame, O'Brien will suit up for head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive coordinator Chris Ash, defensive backs coach/defensive pass game coordinator Mike Mickens and the rest of the Notre Dame staff. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound O'Brien has had a strong offseason, impressing at multiple events, including being one of the top performers at the OT7 7-on-7 event in Dallas this past spring. On the first day of Week 4 action for the OT7 event, O'Brien showed off his length, range and ballhawking ability by snagging five interceptions and returning four of those picks for touchdowns. O'Brien ranks as the No. 136 prospect overall in the Rivals250. He also ranks as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 7 safety in the 2026 cycle. Advertisement The La Salle College High School (Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania) athlete will head to Notre Dame with his current high school teammate, four-star offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh, who committed to the Fighting Irish on Wednesday. In addition to the schools already mentioned, O'Brien received scholarship offers from Alabama, Boston College, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio State, Stanford, Syracuse, UCLA, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and others. As a junior in 2024, O'Brien compiled 36 tackles, 13 pass break-ups and an interception, as he helped lead La Salle to a 10-1 overall record. O'Brien also stars as a wide receiver for the Explorers, as he recorded 68 receptions and set a single-season school-record with 1,029 yards, while scoring 12 touchdowns. He earned PCL Red Division MVP honors, along with first-team All-State honors and second-team All-American honors. O'Brien also plays basketball for La Salle. Rivals250 2026 CB Khary Adams commits to Notre Dame
Notre Dame earned a big victory on the recruiting trail, landing a verbal commitment from class of 2026 four-star cornerback Khary Adams on Friday. Adams, who currently attends Loyola Blakefield High School in Towson, Maryland, is a member of the Rivals250, checking in at No. 246 nationally. He also ranks as the No. 5 prospect in the state of Maryland and the No. 19 cornerback in the 2026 cycle. Advertisement He is coming off of his official visit to South Bend during the weekend of June 13 through June 15 and the Fighting Irish did enough to convince Adams to join Notre Dame. Penn State was previously considered the front-runner for Adams, following his official visit to Happy Valley from May 16 through May 18, but ultimately Notre Dame checked off all the boxes for what Adams was looking for in a program. "Scheme, the environment and the plan they have for me," Adams previously told Rivals when asked what is important to him in his recruitment. "And also NIL (is a factor)." He will play his college football under head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive coordinator Chris Ash, defensive backs coach/defensive pass game coordinator Mike Mickens and the rest of the Notre Dame staff. Adams also took recent official visits to Oregon, South Carolina, Michigan and Maryland as well. Advertisement In addition to the schools mentioned above, Adams received scholarship offers from Arizona, Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Miami (FL.), Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee, USC, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin and others. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Adams is a play-making defensive back with great speed thanks to his track and field background. He is strong in pass coverage in both man-to-man and zone concepts and possesses impressive ball skills. Adams also plays wide receiver for the Dons and is electric with the ball in his hands. As a junior in 2024, Adams earned first-team MIAA "A" All-Conference honors as a defensive back. He recorded 39 tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions, 12 pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries. Offensively, Adams amassed 31 receptions for 703 yards (22.7 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns. With Adams' commitment, Notre Dame's 2026 class now includes 18 total pledges. The Fighting Irish currently rank fifth in the national recruiting team rankings. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT

Does Britain have the means to defend herself from the Russian threat?
SIR – A government spokesman has stated: 'The UK has robust plans in place for a range of potential emergencies' (' PM prepares for attack by Russia ', report, May 6). But are there the resources in place to carry them out? Peter Wickison Driffield, East Yorkshire SIR – Updating 20-year-old contingency plans and advice documents is one thing but – unless we actually create defences, employ sufficient people and supply kit for our forces – this country will repeat the major errors of 1939 in not being physically prepared. The main task of any government is accepted to be defending the country from attack. Far too little is presently being spent on actual defence. Christopher Robson Bedale, North Yorkshire SIR – One would never close all the fire stations in a city, then hope that there are no fires in the five years while new ones are being built. Will any party actually take defence seriously? Chris Ash Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa SIR – From my experience of the Ministry of Defence, hopes that the Strategic Defence Review will provide a comprehensive appraisal of the current threats faced by the UK, and make recommendations to address them, are over-optimistic. It is not an independent review. The military planners will not have had total freedom to lay out their concerns and remedies. Their papers will have been scrutinised and tweaked at every turn by the Civil Service. And, in the end, it is the politicians who will decide what can and can't be said – meaning the finished product will not include anything that could cause the Government political or financial embarrassment. Ron Powell Barry, South Glamorgan SIR – If the Prime Minister believes there is any risk of a direct military attack on Britain, he should not send a significant element of our depleted naval and airpower to the Indo-Pacific. The HMS Prince of Wales Carrier Strike Group will soon be on the other side of the world, with the majority of our new fifth-generation F35 strike-fighters, a large number of anti-submarine and airborne early warning helicopters, an air-defence destroyer, a multi-role frigate and a highly capable cruise-missile armed submarine. As far as the Russian nuclear threat is concerned, there is little point in the Government planning to prepare Britain for this scenario as, even with improved civil contingency measures, our public services would be massively overwhelmed. The focus should be on deterring such an attack by reminding Vladimir Putin that any use of weapons of mass destruction will be met with an instant and devastating response. Rear Admiral Philip Mathias (retd) Director of nuclear policy, 2005-2008 Southsea, Hampshire

Notre Dame Coordinators Talk Continuity And Takeaways From Spring Practice
Today, Notre Dame's offensive and defensive coordinators spoke with the media after practice. The Irish are over a third of the way through spring practice, and new defensive coordinator Chris Ash and second year offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock had a lot to say in this afternoon's press conference about getting acclimated to this 2025 team, and the state of the union on both sides of the ball. There's a lot of speculation and promise lingering on both sides of the ball for Notre Dame and head coach Marcus Freeman this spring. The Irish are slated to be one of the top returning teams this upcoming season. Both Coach Ash and Coach Denbrock will play an integral role in the team's success this season. Advertisement You can watch the full press conference here: Here are some of their comments: Chris Ash On What's Stood Out To Him This Spring "These guys are smart players and they can retain information. You can throw a lot at them and you can go from the meeting room, to walk throughs, to the practice field. It doesn't take a lot of reps for these guys to get it. Conceptually, we've been pretty consistent with what's been done here in the past so that helps. I'm just impressed at the volume of what these guys can retain and take from the meeting room to the practice field." Chris Ash On The Defensive Line "I see players at all three levels that can make plays and do some things that I'm really excited about. Our interior defensive line is probably better than what I had initially thought. There's more depth there; the two transfers have really fit in nice and done a great job. Jason Onye is a guy that wasn't here for a chunk of last season dealing with personal things. He's back in the mix and doing a great job. That group as a position group has stood out more than anything. Advertisement It's everything. Everything starts up front especially inside if you're going to control the line of scrimmage. You have to have those big guys inside and I think we have them." Mike Denbrock On Going Into Year Two "So, year one, you're hoping to establish an identity, a base of what you do and how you do it. You can teach scheme and you try to dig into details as much as you possibly can, but, you have to play games and win games as well. It's kind of a balancing act in year one. Year two gives you a chance to take a deep breathe, assess the things you really liked about what you did, and the things you need to change and adapt to. Year two gives you an opportunity to slow down and really dig into the details. It's all over the cut ups and the tapes from last year's offensive unit. If we're a little better at the details in situational football, we're going to be really hard to stop. A lot of times, we were the ones stopping ourselves. Getting that stuff cleaned up and getting everybody on the same page in year two is a big piece of the puzzle." Mike Denbrock On The Difficulty Of Naming A Starter "At this point, I'd tell you it's going to be incredibly difficult. All three of the guys are playing very consistently, they're making good decisions with the ball, they've got a good understanding of the offense which is obviously a benefit again from going into year two and having a full year under their belt. It's going to come down to some very specific things at the end and we'll evaluate those things as we go. All three guys at this point in the spring have done a really nice job."
