Saginaw Valley State hires former Michigan State assistant as head coach

Another member of the Tom Izzo coaching tree has landed a job within the college basketball world. This time, it is an in state school hiring one of Izzo's former Michigan State basketball assistants. Saginaw Valley State has made the decision to hire Chris Fowler as the school's ninth head men's basketball coach. Advertisement Fowler started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan State, spending two seasons with the Spartans in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He then went on to be an assistant coach at Northern Arizona for two seasons, before reuniting with Dwayne Stephens at Western Michigan for the past three seasons. In his playing career, Fowler was a four-time collegiate captain while at Central Michigan. He is the brother of former Spartan wide receiver legend Bennie Fowler. Fowler is taking over for Randy Baruth, who spent the last 13 seasons as the head coach of the Cardinals basketball program. Fowler joins Stephens, Mark Montgomery and Stan Heath as former Izzo assistants that are current college basketball coaches. Tom Izzo delivers a message to Saginaw Valley State after hiring Chris Fowler

Saginaw Valley State has named Chris Fowler as the ninth head men's basketball coach in the school's history. The hiring marks another member of the Tom Izzo coaching tree getting a head coaching job in the collegiate ranks. Fowler spent two years a part of the Michigan State basketball program as a graduate assistant coach, following his playing career at Central Michigan. Fowler also spent time at Northern Arizona and Western Michigan, where he sat on Dwayne Stephens bench as an associate head coach. Advertisement After getting hired by the Cardinals, Fowler joins Stephens, Mark Montgomery and Stan Heath as former Izzo assistants that are active head coaches within the collegiate ranks. Coincidentally, all four are coaching at in-state schools. Following the hiring, Izzo joined SVSU's social media team to deliver a message to the Cardinals community, sharing his excitement for Fowler, and acknowledging how he is the perfect man for the job. Though Poroto scored an incredible 5 goals overall, and Bray scored in the 6 th and final chukker, both of Catamount, to bring it to 11-8, there just wasn't enough time for a comeback. Tamera clinched their win with a thrilling goal by Coppola to make the final score 12-8. La Dolfina Tamera's Poma won MVP, scoring a team-high 4 goals, with Adolfo scoring 3 goals.
