Iconic Strictly Come Dancing winner's ITV chat show 'axed' after just one series

Strictly Come Dancing legend, Chris McCausland, wowed fans when he lifted the Glitterball trophy last year, but now his chat show on ITV has reportedly been axed Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland won't be returning to ITV for a second series of his chat show, according to reports. The iconic comedian, 46, who was Strictly's first ever blind contestant, wowed fans when he lifted the Glitterball trophy last year when he won the show with professional partner Dianne Buswell. Following his success on the series, Chris was the toast of TV and even starred in his own Christmas flick alongside fellow stand-up star Lee Mack. However, his ITV chat show The Chris McCausland Show, which debuted last year on Saturday mornings and featured a whole host of famous faces, has reportedly been pulled from the channel's schedule. ‌ ‌ Claiming there are no plans for a second series of the show, a source told The Sun: "ITV appears to be moving away from studio-based chat shows in their weekend schedule. In the last number of years they've invested heavily in their daytime programmes and have given new faces an opportunity to shine." They added: "Chris was a breath of a fresh air, but ultimately there are no plans for his show to return." Despite the reports about his ITV series, Chris has been busy with the Beeb for whom he's made a documentary exploring the future of technology with regards to sight. In Chris McCausland: Seeing into the Future, the dad-of-one will investigate how new inventions will impact him personally as he lives with retinitis pigmentosa, a condition that took his eyesight when he was a child. A self-confessed 'tech junkie', Chris, who studied software engineering at university, said he can't wait to get his hands on the next generation of potentially life-changing devices. ‌ The star will heading across the pond to Silicon Valley in the US to explore how cutting-edge technology could transform his life. Speaking to Beyond The Joke, he said: 'I've always been a tech nerd, and now I can't wait to finally get to count this indulgence as work. I'm going to love trying out the latest gadgets and gismos before anybody else can. I'm also going to try and make friends with some robots, because it probably won't be long until they're in charge of us all.' Chris made history when he won Strictly last year and inspired a number of his famous friends with his efforts. Speaking to the Mirror, The Last Leg star, Alex Brooker, who had his right leg amputated when he was 13 months old, said: "I'll be honest with you, I said this on Last Leg at New Year when we had Chris McCausland on, I said it to him direct, the first time I saw Chris on Strictly, I said it was the best thing I'd seen. It blew my mind how he did it. The word inspiration is thrown around loads with disabled people. ‌ "I get called inspirational if I open a can of drink, it's always knocking about but it inspired me so much. I said 'This guy is incredible,' that's phenomenal. I was so delighted he won. However, with that, he's ruined it for any disabled person who goes on after that because none of us will ever be as good as that."
