Shelbourne lead tributes to beloved club stalwart who ‘left a long-lasting legacy' following sad death

SHELBOURNE have paid tribute to club historian Chris Sands following his death. The beloved stalwart died on Monday after a long association with the club that started when he went to his first game in 1940 when he was three. 1 Shelbourne have paid tribute to historian Chris Sands Credit: Stephen McCarthy/Sportsfile Alongside an emotional video tribute to the Dubliner, Shels praised his impact on the League of Ireland Premier Division champions. A statement read: "Everyone at Shelbourne FC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our long-serving club historian, Chris Sands. "Chris's work preserving and promoting our history leaves a long lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and friends." This tribute initiated a number of others from fans who had spent time in Sands' company at Tolka Park or otherwise. Read More on Shelbourne Michael said: "RIP Chris Sands. "I invited Chris to contribute to the Shels match day programme over 20 years ago and he was a regular contributor over the years. "He loved to talk about Shels especially his young days going to Shelbourne Park in Ringsend." Another said: "A sad day for the club.
