On The Punt: Flemington best bets for Saturday June 7, 2025

News Corp form analyst Chris Vernuccio takes a look at the Flemington meeting on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET JIMMY THE BEAR (Race 5 No.3): Jimmy The Bear is backing up after winning last week over 1400m at Caulfield when second-up. The six-year-old gelding has come back in great order after resuming with a second behind War Machine and he is capable of holding his form. He has won four time at 1600m. NEXT BEST SOFT LOVE (Race 4 No.4): Soft Love won her first starts this prep before suffering her first loss when she stepped up to stakes grade in the Denise's Joy Stakes at Scone. She was only beaten 1¼ lengths in a bunched finish and will find this easier. AHHA AHHA (Race 6 No.9): Progressive filly Ahha Ahha steps up against the boys after a dominant three-length win in a Benchmark 78 fillies race at Sandown last time out, which followed a close third behind potential star Madiyya at Caulfield. She looks ready for 1600m.

On The Punt: Best bets for Sandown on Saturday May 24, 2025

News Corp form analyst Chris Vernuccio takes a look at the Sandown meeting on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET ACCREDITED (R8 No.10): Accredited resumed with a half-length fifth in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes on a Soft 7 track. The NSW visitor drops back to a Benchmark 100 here, and he won his only race at 1400m by four lengths. A dry track gives him the advantage over race favourite Elouyou, who could be scratched if there isn't a downgrade. NEXT BEST SUNSHINEINMYPOCKET (R9 No.4): Sunshineinmypocket is flying this campaign with two wins and a second from four starts. The only time he was out of the placings was on a Soft 7 surface. He has won five from seven on good-rated tracks. He won at Caulfield last start over the 1400m from back in the field and should be finishing strongly again. OTAGO (R7 No.15): Otago was excellent in his first run back after nearly 14 months, running on from last to finish behind smart sprinter King Zephyr at Flemington. A month between runs could eliminate any second-up flatness. He showed plenty of promise in his last prep, finishing fourth in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes and wasn't disgraced in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. Originally published as

On The Punt: Flemington best bets for Saturday, May 17, 2025

Form analyst Chris Vernuccio gives his best bet, next best and value tip at Flemington on Saturday. News Corp form analyst Chris Vernuccio takes a look at the Flemington meeting on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET KING ZEPHYR (R6 No.11): King Zephyr sets up to stakes grade for the first time after winning all four runs this prep, beating his opposition easily by a combined margin of 9¼ lengths. He looks capable of winning Group races. The step back to 1200m is the only concern but connections have their sights on the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap next month. NEXT BEST HIGHVOL (R2 No.1): Highvol won a stakes race on debut on Anzac Day and should have more upside. The horse he beat, Stay Cosmic, was runner-up in a handicap race at Sandown Lakeside after winning on debut, so the form potentially looks strong. He's drawn well in barrier six to settle among the leading pack. VALUE BET MAGARTEN (R9 No.10): Magarten chased home in-form galloper Know Thyself at Randwick last start, finishing 1¼ lengths behind the Country Championships Final winner. He should be ready to peak third-up and has placed twice in both attempts at 1800m. ETHAN BROWN HIGHVOL (R2 No.1 – $2.80), MATERIAL DREAMS (R3 No.5 – $8.50), KALKALLO (R4 No.7 – $3.90), OXFORD BLUE (R5 No.4 – $4.80), BERKSHIRE BREEZE (R7 No.12 – $5.50).
