Dallas detectives unravel murder of Jamie Faith on ‘Dateline'

(NBC) — Friday's 'Dateline' is a two-hour episode on the murder of Jamie Faith, a Dallas man brazenly gunned down while he and his wife were taking their dog for her morning walk outside their home. 'Dateline' examines who would have wanted Jamie dead and why. It is a tale of deceit, betrayal and lost love. Josh Mankiewicz interviews Darrin Lopez, homicide detective Chris Walton, detective Eric Barnes, federal prosecutor Rick Calvert, reporter Cyrus Cezar AKA 'Smash Da Topic,' Darrin's attorney Juan Sanchez, friends and family members and others. Here is a preview of Mankiewicz's report: Most people never know when their last day on earth will come. For Jamie Faith, it was a sunny morning in Dallas while walking his dog, Maggie. JENNIFER SVELAN: I woke up and I checked our Cliff Ladies Club page and Smash Da Topic was reporting that there had been a shooting. Cyrus Cezar, better known as Smash Da Topic, was the first reporter on the scene. SMASH DA TOPIC: How would somebody know these people walking they dog every day? Dallas PD homicide detective Chris Walton was wondering the same thing. CHRIS WALTON: He was shot three times in the head, three times in the chest and one time in the groin. JOSH MANKIEWICZ: That does not feel like a robbery. That feels like something else. MARIA GUERRERO: It was overkill to me. To me, it was very personal. JOSH MANKIEWICZ: And then, what you find after that, I'm pretty sure you've never seen before. RICK CALVERT: No. The case takes a dramatic twist. 'Dateline: Losing Faith' airs Friday at 9 p.m. on NBC4. 'Dateline NBC' is the longest-running series in NBC primetime history and is in its 33rd season. Dateline is anchored by Lester Holt and features correspondents Blayne Alexander, Andrea Canning, Josh Mankiewicz, Keith Morrison and Dennis Murphy. The stories range from compelling mysteries to powerful documentaries and in-depth investigations. When major news breaks, they go to the scene, putting the pieces together to bring the viewer the full picture. And in every story they tell, they help the real people who lived the events share their journeys with the viewer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
