HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) — A man accused of 'strangulating' a Hopkinsville officer back in March was reportedly indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday for multiple charges. The Hopkinsville Police Department said an officer noticed a motorcycle passing a vehicle on the right side of the shoulder at Old Clarksville Pike and Fort Campbell Boulevard on March 12. As a result, the officer initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 7 on Pennyrile Parkway. The officer made contact with the motorcyclist, 43-year-old Carlo Jones of Hopkinsville, who 'became extremely argumentative and advised that he did not need to provide his driver's license,' authorities said. PREVIOUS: Man accused of 'strangulating' officer during traffic stop in Hopkinsville When the officer tried to detain Jones, he allegedly pulled away and pushed the officer. Then, Jones ran toward the officer and bear-hugged him, causing both Jones and the officer to fall over the guardrail, down toward an embankment near water, according to police. After that, officials said Jones 'mounted the officer and began strangulating the officer to the point of almost losing consciousness.' The officer was reportedly brought to the hospital for treatment after At the time of the incident, law enforcement said Jones was charged with attempted murder of a first responder (peace officer), resisting arrest, menacing, and improper passing. ⏩ More than two months later, on Friday, May 16, a true bill was returned indicting Jones for first degree attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, and menacing, according to WKDZ Radio. HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) — Two people and one animal reportedly died after a collision involving a motorcycle and a truck in Hopkinsville Sunday evening. Hopkinsville Fire/EMS said crews responded to the crash in the the 2400 block of Russellville Road around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 11. Man accused of driving through crowd in Hopkinsville, injuring woman According to WKDZ Radio, the Hopkinsville Police Department said an eastbound truck was turning into Western State Hospital when it collided with a westbound motorcycle. A man and a woman who were riding the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County coroner, officials reported. WKDZ Radio said a dog in the truck was also killed in the crash. 2 bicyclists dead, driver charged following Hopkinsville crash Shortly after 7:15 p.m., the fire department announced law enforcement was still at the scene to investigate the circumstances that led to this deadly incident. Stone County man charged after assaulting elderly person at Clever gas station

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. — A man has been charged with felony assault after allegedly assaulting an elderly man at a gas station in Clever in late April. According to online court dockets, Gary Lee Cox, born 1957, of Crane, is charged with felony third-degree assault of a special victim in Christian County Circuit Court. According to the Clever Police Department (CPD), the assault took place on April 30 at the White Oak gas station. Court documents say Cox punched an elderly man in the face so hard it knocked him to theground and an ambulance had to be called. The CPD said the Clever community was instrumental in assisting in the apprehension of of Cox. 'We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the people that provided videos of the incident, as well as those that called, messaged, and emailed tips,' the CPD said in a social media post. 'This is a powerful reminder of what our community can accomplish.' The CPD also thanked Deputy Loveland with the Christian County Sheriff's Office. Loveland was able to provide details that aided in identifying the suspect. Cox was arrested on Thursday, May 8, and later released from the Christian County Jail on a $5,000 bond. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — With stormy springtime weather beginning to ease back, families looking for an economical, enjoyable time to spend together this summer can look no further than the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) camping opportunities. Busiek State Forest and Wildlife Area (Christian County): This area south of Ozark features eight designated camping spots. These sites are designed to be tent-only and require a short walk from the parking area. People wanting to camp at Busiek must first obtain a special-use permit from MDC's Southwest Regional Office at 2630 N. Mayfair Ave. in Springfield. These permits are free, but campers must obtain them through an in-person visit to MDC's Southwest Regional Office; they are not issued online or over-the-phone. Little Sac Woods Conservation Area (Greene County): This area features two designated primitive camping spots. Both camping areas are tent-only and require campers to walk from the parking lot. As is the case with Busiek, people wanting to camp at the Little Sac Area must first obtain a special-use permit from MDC's Southwest Regional Office at 2630 N. Mayfair Ave. Lead Mine Conservation Area (Dallas County): This area features five designated primitive camping areas. The main campground has 50 gravel sites. The other four camping areas are primitive and provide campers with an open area to camp, but no other amenities. These designated camping sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. An MDC special-use permit is not needed except if a group of 10 or more individuals wish to camp at the same area. People interested in camping at MDC areas with designated camping sites need to remember that these spots include no RV hook-ups, no bathroom/shower facilities and no drinking water. People can get more information about camping at any of the MDC areas listed above by calling MDC's Southwest Regional Office in Springfield at (417) 895-6880. In addition to MDC public use areas that have designated spots for camping, some other MDC areas allow primitive camping anywhere on the area. People should check the area regulations of a specific area (either online, at an MDC office, or with a conservation agent) to learn more about camping regulations at a specific area.
