YSU Art Department helps high schoolers prepare portfolios for college
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Artists who are ready to take the next step with an art degree had an opportunity to meet with Youngstown State University professors on Saturday.
It was Portfolio Day for high school-level artists. Students could bring their artwork and receive feedback from faculty with the Department of Art.
The event comes a week before the scholarship deadline for the art program, which requires a submitted portfolio. Portfolio Day also creates a connection between the department and potential students.
Department Chair Joy Christiansen Erb said the McDonough Museum of Arts sets YSU's program apart from others.
'Our seniors show their work there their senior year as part of their senior project, which I think is something that really sets us apart from other people in the area. I always say that most people don't have museum shows for quite some time after graduation. So, the fact that our students have that opportunity is really wonderful,' Christiansen Erb said.
For any art student interested in applying for the art scholarships, the deadline is Feb. 15.
