House District 97 Republican primary: Tim Anderson faces Christina Felder

Republican candidates Tim Anderson and Christina Felder are competing to be on the ballot for Virginia's House of Delegates 97th District. The winner of the primary will face Democratic challenger and incumbent Michael Feggans in November. Members of the House of Delegates serve two-year terms. The district includes central Virginia Beach. ___ Age: 50 Employment: Attorney Education: Doctoral degree, Regent University Previous elected office: House of Delegates 83rd District Website: What is your top priority if elected and how would you work across the aisle to accomplish it? Lowering taxes, specifically eliminating the car tax. Every year the government asks more from Virginians in the form of higher real estate taxes. We must start finding ways to reduce the tax burden on Virginia families, especially in a time of multi-year record state surplus. The best way to reduce the car tax burden is to allocate the multi-billion dollar annual surplus and provide direct relief to taxpayers from this obligation. What is the best way for Virginia to respond to federal funding cuts to the state? Virginia has over 250,000 public and private job vacancies. While the federal government may be reducing its workforce, we have jobs ready to be filled. Getting federal workers back to work and contributing to the tax base of the state with alternative jobs is the fastest way to protect the economy. This is not a political issue. Federal workers who have lost their jobs need to be plugged into the available workforce that exists as quickly as possible. Should billionaires like Elon Musk and George Soros be able to contribute unlimited amounts of money to Virginia candidates? If yes, why? If no, what would you do if elected to office to enact campaign finance limits? Of course not. Neither should millionaires like Michael Bills in Charlottesville who has directly infused tens of thousands of dollars into my opponents race through his Clean Virginia PAC. I have carried specific legislation to limit the amount candidates can accept — in line with federal giving limitations. Elections should be about ideas — not the very wealthy installing candidates into office with tremendous and overwhelming resources. ___ Age: 28 Employment: Educator, Virginia Beach City Public Schools Education: Doctoral degree, Higher Ed. Administration Educational Leadership, Liberty University Website: What is your top priority if elected and how would you work across the aisle to accomplish it? My top priority is the citizens of District 97. I would be their voice in those rooms and would work hard across the aisle to accomplish new laws to be set in place for the community. By understanding, listening, and always putting the people first. As Jesus said, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' What is the best way for Virginia to respond to federal funding cuts to the state? As times change, we the people have to change, to flow with time. We are entering a new era. The community of District 97 is ready. As President Trump stated, 'The golden age is here!' Democratic leadership has been in control for the past few years. I've seen first-hand major stagnation in District 97. I can not sit back and watch the deterioration of my home anymore. Someone has to get things done the 'RIGHT' way. It is time for an overall new way of life. As I always say, 'out with the old, in with the new!' As a Republican, I want my fellow citizens not to be nervous but to take the experience in a positive way. I want to help my community by listening, educating, and 'GETTING THE JOB DONE ASAP!' My fellow citizens with severe disabilities, I will make sure they are protected. District 97 will have well-educated, law-abiding, strong citizens. Not deteriorating anymore! Should billionaires like Elon Musk and George Soros be able to contribute unlimited amounts of money to Virginia candidates? If yes, why? If no, what would you do if elected to office to enact campaign finance limits? A person should be allowed to do whatever they want with their money. If billionaires want to give money out like water to their political candidates of choice, then that is their business. I do believe that any money involving someone's political position should always be reported on their campaign finance report. This was the purpose for creating the campaign finance reports, so that the public has access to view this information.
