Stoke-on-Trent man charged over pedestrian's hit-and-run death

Man, 51, who died after Midlands hit-and-run is named - as car found in alleyway
A man who died following a hit-and-run in the Midlands has been named by police. Christopher Deaville died following the collision in Staffordshire on Friday night (April 11). Officers were to Newcastle Lane in the Penkhull area of Stoke at 9pm following reports of a collision between a car and pedestrian. Police have named Christopher after speaking to his family. He was from Stoke. The driver did not stop at the scene following the collision. Detectives discovered a black Mini Cooper found abandoned in an alleyway near Birks Street. The car was badly damaged. It had been stolen overnight from York Road in Stafford sometime between Wednesday and Thursday earlier this week (April 9 and 10). A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "CCTV from the area the car was found shows a man and a woman walking nearby at about 9pm the same night (Friday 11 April). "We're keen to speak to them as part of our enquiries to find out more about what happened. "We're also urging anyone with any information that can help us to get in touch as soon as possible. "We think the Mini was travelling at speed along Newcastle Lane, past the Marquis of Granby pub, onto Penkhull New Road. "The driver then turned right onto London Road and into the estate of Boothen Old Road, before getting to an alleyway off Birks Street and Campbell Road, where the car was later found abandoned.
