County RDC moves to improve roads in Agribusiness Park
The county roads leading up to the Heidelberg Materials cement and bioprocessing factory will soon get some upgrades.
The Cass County Redevelopment Commission approved a contract March 21 with Indianapolis-based company HWC Engineering on Monday to widen County Road 375 West and County Road 225 South.
When the project is finished, the road should be as wide as the nearby county road 300 South and 400 West.
Christy Householder, head of Cass County Economic Development, explained the project will improve the roads to semi-truck standards with things like drainage improvements, culvert replacement and utility coordination.
According to the Redevelopment Commission's contract with HWC, the company will provide things like engineering, surveying and bidding for $573,865. There are a handful of reimbursable expenses — such as large format black and white prints, which cost 40 cents per square foot — that could be tacked on.
The actual road widening likely won't happen until next year, when the County can secure more grant funding, such as the Community Crossings Matching Grant. The County received $1,500,000 from the matching grant this year.
Most of the roads in Agribusiness Park have been improved, or are in the process of being improved, Householder explained. County roads 300 South and 400 West will be improved this summer via grants from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and Community Crossings Matching Grant.
County Road 375 West and County Road 225 South, which are just west of Heidelberg Materials' main driveway, are the last two roads in Agribusiness Park to receive improvements.
