Production for a Bollywood film has descended on the streets, and beaches, of Edinburgh. The movie, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, is a romantic comedy - and a remake of a classic '90s Bollywood film. It's set for release in April next year. Residents in the city have seen filming taking place in Victoria Street, outside the Royal Scottish Academy and down at Portobello beach. The films title comes from a Hindu saying, which roughly translates means that 'young people are bound to fall in love'. Abhijeet Bhattacharya REACTS to Chunari Chunari remake in Varun Dhawan's film: Makers ki himmat nahi…

Abhijeet Bhattacharya's hit track Chunari Chunari from the 1999 film Biwi No.1, originally picturised on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen, continues to be a fan favourite even after more than two decades. However, the recent decision to remake the song for the upcoming film Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur, hasn't gone down well with fans. Videos of the trio shooting the recreated version in London have gone viral on social media, sparking a wave of criticism and trolling with many expressing their displeasure over yet another classic being remade. He tells us exclusively, 'Mujhe music composer, film ke director kisi ne nahi bataya ki iss song ko remake kiya jaa raha hai. Himmat bhi nahi kar sakte batane ki.' Surprisingly, Abhijeet admits the song was never a personal favourite. 'For me personally, Chunari Chunari was not a great song, never. It was one of those 'jaldi gaao aur bhaago studio se' song. I never count it among my great songs. This was one of those where the makers just wanted the lyrics to become a hit somehow.' He adds, 'For the past 25 years I have heard it being played at functions, parties, and would always think 'What is it about the song, there was nothing that I remember from the time I sang it' But I do realise it has become iconic for fans.' Does he mind that the song is being reimagined, considering its emotional value for fans? Abhijeet says: 'Mujhe farak nahi padhta itni chhoti cheez se. I don't get involved much. In the market, copies are sold more than the original. Only great people know the value of the original. Tuchhi cheez mein main padhta hi nahi hoon.'

Hai Jawani toh Ishq Hona Hai: Varun, Pooja, Mrunal remake Chunnari Chunnari; fans say ‘don't ruin it' under leaked clip

Varun Dhawan has dabbled in several genres in his acting career, which began over a decade ago. But comedy is one talent which comes naturally to him, much like his director father David Dhawan. So when it was announced that the father-son duo are reuniting for their fourth comedy film, expectations were definitely high. Just yesterday, Varun announced the name of their upcoming project, which also stars Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. He shared, 'Double the trouble, triple the fun! Jab...'Hai Jawani toh Ishq Hona Hai' hits cinemas on 10th April 2026.' The title Hai Jawani toh Ishq Hona Hai is inspired by a song from David's 1999 film Biwi No.1. But that's not the only common thing between the two films. A post shared by Tips Films (@tipsfilmsofficial) Recently a video of lead stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde surfaced on social media. In this viral clip, the three actors were grooving to a remade version of Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen's iconic dance number Chunnari Chunnari from Biwi No. 1. According to reports, Varun, Mrunal and Pooja will present the audience with Chunnari Chunnari 2.0 in Hai Jawani toh Ishq Hona Hai. Well, remaking songs or remixing old tracks is not unheard of in the Hindi film industry. But netizens have taken strong offence to this one, as many feel this team might not match up to the standard set by Salman and Sushmita 26 years ago. Take a look: A post shared by Tellychakkar Official ® (@tellychakkar) Soon after this video of Varun, Mrunal and Pooja went viral on social media, many netizens lashed out. For instance, one internet user wrote, 'Please do chunari chunari😭,' whereas another comment read, 'Till date this music is best wen u hear it u have to dance but don't ruin it.' A netizen claimed, 'I want to unsee this..... No creativity…,' whereas another shared, 'Please yar! Why they are ruining all these songs😂.' Meanwhile, some trolled Varun. One such social media user claimed, 'Ye Salman ka copy kar kar ke career bana raha hai,' whereas another opined, 'Varun Dhawan just basically redoing everything Salman Khan did.' What are you expecting from Chunnari Chunnari 2.0?
