Restaurant, church listed in new Manitoba measles exposure sites

Manitoba health officials are warning the public about potential new measles exposure sites, including a bar and church. The province said the potential exposures happened at Manitou Motor Inn's bar on June 9 from 3 until 6:30 p.m., Triangle Oasis Restaurant in Winkler on June 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Steinbach Church of God on June 1 from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., and VB's Entertainment Center in Winkler on June 9 from 5 to 10 p.m. Anyone at the church during the outlined times should monitor for symptoms until June 23. Those at the bar and entertainment centre should monitor until July 1, while anyone at the restaurant at the outlined time should monitor until July 3. Public health also asks anyone at those places during these times to check their immunization records and ensure they are up to date with their measles vaccine, be it MMR or MMRV. Officials recommend anyone who was exposed at these places who was born in 1970 or later and has never had a measles infection to get vaccinated and watch for symptoms. However, they note certain people should not be vaccinated, including infants less than six months old, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. These people should contact their health-care providers or public health, as they may be eligible for preventative treatments within six days of exposure. Officials note close contacts may be asked to isolate and consider vaccination. Measles symptoms typically appear in seven to 21 days from exposure. Symptoms can include a fever, runny nose, drowsiness, irritability and red eyes. White spots can also develop inside the mouth. Symptoms can also develop into a red rash that starts on someone's face and goes down their body. According to the most recent provincial data, there have been 98 confirmed measles cases this year as of June 7.
