Central Florida leaders presented their annual 'State of Hospitality and Tourism' on Thursday. The forum is an opportunity to discuss the tourism trends expected for the year. Officials said like every industry, there are still struggles in hospitality and tourism. Eleven Bills were filed for consideration in the Florida Senate Sunday
Eleven Bills were filed for consideration in the Florida Senate Sunday morning as part of a sweeping initiative combatting illegal immigration. Filed by Senators Blaise Ingoglia [R-11th District], Jonathan Martin [R-33rd District] and Jay Collins [R-14th District], the sweep comes a day before the special session called by Gov. Ron DeSantis' on Monday morning. Read: Remembering Bob Snow: Pioneer of Orlando's tourism and founder of Church Street Station The set includes ten bills that specifically mention immigration and one bill, SB 18A, that amends the petition process utilized by the Attorney General when petitioning the Supreme Court for opinions on amendments to the State Constitution. The spotlight is on survivors as their numbers dwindle The Eleven Bills are listed below; SB 2-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration - Requiring the presumption that no conditions of release will secure the appearance at trial of an unauthorized alien. SB 4-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration - requiring, rather than authorizing, law enforcement agencies to transport certain persons securely to a federal facility in this state. SB 6-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration, Terrorist Organizations, and Transnational Organized Crime and Their Illegal Immigrant Participants - specifying that all profits of hate group activity, terrorist organization activity, and transnational criminal organization activity are subject to seizure. SB 8-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration - Requiring the penalty reclassification of certain crimes committed after unlawful reentry into the United States, etc. SB 10-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration - Establishing the Office of Secure Florida within the Department of Commerce, etc. APPROPRIATION: $1,725,423. Read: Hot tamales, an exciting expansion arrives in College Park and at home The Eleven Bills continues; SB 12-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration - Revising the oath a person subscribes to upon registering to vote. SB 14-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration - Requiring each state and county law enforcement agency, and any other law enforcement agency with more than 25 sworn or certified law enforcement officers, to enter into a written agreement with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement to participate in a particular immigration program. SB 16-A: Combatting Illegal Immigration - requiring the Financial Services Commission to adopt specific rules. SB 18-A: Petition Process - authorizing a supervisor of elections to verify certain signatures only if a certain petition form is used. SB 20-A: Postsecondary Out-of-state Fee Waivers - Deleting provisions relating to the waiver of out-of-state fees for certain students, including students who are undocumented for federal immigration purposes.
