SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta is a celebration of Latino culture and heritage in Sioux Falls. The free Fiesta goes from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Falls Park and includes live music, dancing, food, piñatas and a dog fashion show. The Fiesta benefits Caminando Juntos, a ministry of the Presentation Sisters. More than 7-thousand runners and walkers are expected to take part in the Avera Race Against Cancer. The annual fundraiser for cancer research is taking place in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Mitchell, Pierre, Yankton and Marshall, MN. Activities include 1.5 and 3-mile walks and 5K and 10K runs. The Empire Mall in Sioux Falls is hosting a Firefighter Appreciation Event that includes fire truck tours, kids' crafts, games and refreshments. The free event is taking place in the east JCPenney parking lot from 11 a.m. 1 p.m. Purchase fresh produce along with other home-grown and home-made items at the Falls Park Farmers Market. It's open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October. Local businesses are hosting a Mother's Day Celebration at the Nordic Hall in downtown Sioux Falls. They're offering women's clothing for sale, crafts, jewelry, baked goods, photo shoots and chair massages from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. AMC Collective in Sioux Falls is hosting a Cupcake Liner Flowers Make & Take from noon to 3 p.m. Guests can choose from a wide variety of cupcake liner colors and designs to make their flowers unique. It costs $4 for two flowers. Businesses in Luverne, MN are hosting a Mother' Day Flower Walk. All mothers and mothers to-be are invited to the participating businesses between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to receive a free, fresh flower stem to create their own Mother's Day bouquets. Joah's Ark, a Minnesota-based petting zoo, is making a special trip into South Dakota to showcase its animals. You'll find a menagerie of bottle lambs, fainting goats, mini-horses, donkeys, prairie dogs and a potbelly pig. The location is 48258 265th Street, south of Brandon. The hours are 1-6 p.m. Sunday's hours are 1-5 p.m. Admission is free. MadTown Bike Day includes free helmets, e-bike test rides and kids bicycle inspections in the parking lot of Madison Vision Clinic. It's taking place from 1-5 p.m. and also includes bike rides around Lake Madison. Movies playing at the historic State Theater in downtown Sioux Falls include Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, plus The Legend of Ochi and The Parent Trap, all rated PG. The Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium at the Washington Pavilion features T-Rex, Mars: The Ultimate Voyage, 3-2-1 Liftoff and Experience the Aurora. New movie releases playing at a theater near you include Shadow Force, Clown in a Cornfield and Fight or Flight, all rated R. Enjoy sprint car, street stock and hobby stock racing at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD. Ganzo's Cinco de Mayo 5K canceled
A long time charity race in the Quad Cities is hanging up its running shoes. A post on Ganzo's Cinco de Mayo 5K's Facebook page says that due to rising costs, the race will no longer be held. The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta will be celebrated as usual. 'From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this journey,' the post said. 'Your enthusiasm and generosity have made a lasting impact on our community. We hope to see you at the fiesta!'
