Travel advice for Southend fans getting to Wembley as tube line part-closed

BLUES fans are being urged to plan their journeys to the Wembley Stadium next weekend ahead of suspected travel disruption as a key tube line is part closed. Southend United are preparing to face Oldham Athletic in the National League play-off-final at the Wembley on Sunday, June 1, after beating Forest Green Rovers 4-2 on penalties last night. However, there will be no service on the Metropolitan line between Aldgate and Harrow-on-the-Hill all weekend from Friday, May 30, meaning Shrimpers planning on travelling to Wembley Park from London Liverpool Street will need to find alternative routes. Amid the closure, here's some advice for fans planning on travelling to the final: The best station to access Wembley Stadium is Wembley Park, followed by Wembley Stadium, and Wembley Central. Wembley Park is the closest tube station, served by the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines. Wembley Stadium is on Chiltern Railways, and Wembley Central is on the Bakerloo and London Overground lines. To Wembley Stadium (2h 9m) Take the c2c at Southend Central or Greater Anglia at Southend Victoria, both towards London Liverpool Street. From London Liverpool Street take the Circle Line or the Hammersmith and City Line to Baker Street Underground Station. Change and take the Bakerloo Line to Marylebone Underground Station or walk to London Marylebone (approximately 10 minutes). From London Marylebone take the Chiltern Railway line to Wembley Stadium. To Wembley Central (2h 15m) Take the c2c at Southend Central or Greater Anglia at Southend Victoria, both towards London Liverpool Street. From London Liverpool Street take the Circle Line, the Hammersmith and City Line or the Metropolitan Line to Euston Square Underground Station. From Euston Square walk to London Euston (approximately 8 minutes). From London Euston, take the London Overground towards Watford Junction to Wembley Central. For Basildon and Benfleet, take the c2c to London Liverpool Street and then follow the same routes.

Heads up: All Circle Line stations will close earlier from June 15 to July 30, 2025

Taking the bus or train is part of everyday life in Singapore – but unless you're checking into that quirky SMRT train hotel, you won't want to be stuck in a carriage wondering why your train isn't moving. Here's a heads-up for Circle Line users: Circle Line stations will close early at 11pm from Sundays to Wednesdays, starting from June 15 until July 30, 2025. This supports upgrading works in preparation for the launch of Circle Line Stage 6 in early 2026. The upcoming extension will include three new stops – Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road.

Circle Line train services to end at 11pm on some days between Jun 15 to Jul 30 to prepare for stage 6 opening

SINGAPORE: Train services on the Circle Line (CCL) will end earlier on some days between Jun 15 and Jul 30 to prepare for the opening of the complete CCL loop in the first half of next year. To facilitate the works, services will end at 11pm from Sundays to Wednesdays, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and rail operator SMRT said on Thursday (May 22). "Services on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays will remain unchanged," read the joint news release. LTA and SMRT said a series of works will be carried out on the existing CCL to renew its Integrated Supervisory Control System (ISCS) to ensure system compatibility with the new stretch of the line that will connect HarbourFront station to Marina Bay station. CCL stage 6 will close the circle between Marina Bay and Harbourfront stations via three new stations - Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road. When completed, there will be a total of 33 stations along the entire Circle Line. THE ISCS LTA and SMRT said that the ISCS monitors and manages the systems on the CCL, including power supply, communications and station facilities. It also supports communications between stations, control centres and trains. "The current system has been in use since the CCL began operations in 2009, and needs to be renewed to ensure it is compatible with the new CCL6 system," they said. Earlier closures of train services "are required to provide longer blocks of engineering hours necessary for testing and commissioning of the new servers and equipment to be carried out safely and rigorously," LTA and SMRT said. They advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and to rely on alternative routes via other MRT lines and bus services to reach their destinations. Commuters can also refer to LTA's mobile app and LTA's and SMRT's social media platforms for more details. Posters will be put up at all CCL MRT stations and at stations that interchange with the CCL to inform commuters of the service adjustments, while station staff will also be deployed at affected stations to assist during the service adjustment period. LTA and SMRT noted that further service adjustments "will be needed to complete systems integration testing across the entire CCL, and ensure that the CCL6 stretch is well integrated with the existing CCL. "At present, we plan tentatively to carry out these adjustments from September to December 2025," they said. "These temporary service adjustments are necessary as we prepare for the opening of CCL6, so that there is sufficient time to conduct thorough and rigorous testing to ensure the safety of our commuters. "These works will bring us closer to the completion of the CCL6 extension, which will enhance connectivity, shorten travel times, and bring greater convenience to our commuters," said LTA and SMRT.

Delays on Circle Line between Paya Lebar and Buona Vista MRT stations due to train fault

SINGAPORE: Commuters travelling between Paya Lebar and Buona Vista stations on the Circle Line (CCL) experienced delays on Tuesday (May 20) morning. Train operator SMRT first told commuters at 8.26am to expect an additional 30 minutes of travel time between the two stations due to a train fault. "Free regular bus services are available between Serangoon and Buona Vista." It said in an update at 8.41am that the train fault has recovered and services are "progressively resuming". One commentator on SMRT's Facebook page said he was "trapped at Serangoon" station for 20 minutes, while another said he was stuck at Caldecott station. A CNA reporter travelling on the Circle Line was told to alight at Serangoon MRT station and change to the North East Line. CNA has contacted SMRT for more information, including the cause of the train fault.

The number of sex toys abandoned across TfL revealed — and two were returned

Each year, TfL's lost property office logs hundreds of thousands of items – and each one is individually recorded and in lucky cases, reunited with its owner. A few wallets here and a hat or two there are easy enough to sort: but what about the countless sex toys that end up separated from their partners? Now, a cheeky Freedom of Information Request has revealed the TfL transport line that's seen the highest number of sex toys end up in the lost and found over the last couple of years. Any guesses? It's the Circle Line, famed for its air conditioning, wide carriages, and now, the sex lives of its forgetful passengers. Mapping the number of sex toys deserted across various services, data from TfL showed that in 2024, 20 were found across the capital. Eight were found on their own, while 12 were nestled inside a bag. And no, we're not sure whether they were rabbits or bullets. There was a happy ending for two of these lost items though, which were successfully returned to their intended owners. We're just hoping they were given a good clean afterwards. In 2023, six toys were found all alone across the Big Smoke, while 14 were found inside a bag. Again, two managed to be reunited with their owners. Five toys were found at five Circle Line stations in 2023 and 2024 – including Barbican, Cannon Street, Edgware Road, Paddington, and Westminster. Four toys were found at Elizabeth Line stations in 2024 – including Abbey Wood, Gidea Park, Paddington, and Shenfield. It wasn't just the Circle and Elizabeth Lines though: absent-minded passengers were also boarding the other TfL services and leaving a crucial member on board. In 2023 and 2024, pleasure devices were found at Barbican, Camden Town, Cannon Street, Earl's Court, and Edgware Road, to name a few. Honourable mentions also went to Hammersmith, as well as High Barnet, London Bridge, Waterloo, and Willesden Green. Bus garages were also a relatively common occurrence, with the most common location being Stockwell down in South London. Camberwell, Merton, Northumberland Park, and Putney also appeared on the list, as did nearby Vauxhall. So, how do these locations rank on Lovehoney's 2025 Sex Map? Across the UK, Greenwich, which is home to Abbey Wood, landed in 709th place for the number of vibrators purchased, and slightly higher for strap-ons in 593rd. When it comes to dressing up in the bedroom, the French Maid is the costume of choice for Greenwich residents, while the favourite flavour of lube is a cheeky cherry. Hereford – 7.13 inches Jersey – 7.11 inches Inverness – 7.10 inches Twickenham – 7.09 inches Hemel Hempstead – 7.07 inches Doncaster – 7.04 inches Wigan – 7.03 inches Peterborough – 7.03 inches Halifax – 7.01 inches Norwich – 7.00 inches. Elsewhere on the Elizabeth Line, Westminster (where Paddington is located) ranks 657th for vibrators, 520th for strap-ons, and 321st for butt plugs. More Trending And while they may share a penchant for fruit-flavoured lube with Greenwich, their dildos are actually slightly longer on average, at 6.8' rather than 6.6'. Meanwhile, in Brentwood, the borough Shenfield residents call home, dildos are a big event, as they measure 7.2' on average. Vibrators see them rank 334th, and they're also relatively into their role play, ranking 248th in the country. View More » Undoubtedly though, Lambeth – which houses both Stockwell and Vauxhall bus station, where some beloved toys were left abandoned – is significantly kinkier, placing 171st in the country for vibrators and 84th for butt plugs specifically.
