Orrville United Way campaign proceeds being distributed to area community programs
Orrville Area United Way has chosen the recipients of its grant awards that were funded by this year's campaign, which raised about $740,000, surpassing the $725,000 goal
The Board of Directors approved the allocations in January.
The community's support reflects the campaign theme "CommUnity – YOU Make a Difference." Two-thirds of employee campaigns reported an increase in giving, and contributions from community members also grew, according to an announcement from United Way.
The funds will support four impact areas − Nurturing Children & Youth, Helping in Hard Times, Developing Life Skills, and Promoting Health & Wellness.
In addition to the grants, $65,000 is allocated for the seven Percy Programs, which address immediate community needs, such as the Weekend Backpack initiative that provides food for children in Dalton and Orrville schools over the weekend, and Sweet Dreams, which supplies beds for children in need.
The volunteer Citizen Review Committee plays a vital role in ensuring responsible fund allocation, according to the announcement. Members review and recommend grants based on needs and program impact.
