Craig Bellamy picks Ronan Kpakio for Wales after failing to buy him for Burnley
Full-back Kpakio, 18 last Sunday, was the surprise name in Bellamy's 27-strong squad on Wednesday for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Belgium. Kpakio made his first league start for Cardiff on the final day of the season at Norwich after being capped by Wales at various age-grade levels. Wales manager Craig Bellamy has followed the progress of Cardiff defender Ronan Kpakio for some time (Jacob King/PA) 'I've known Ronan since he was very, very young and I've kept an eye on him,' said Bellamy, who was Vincent Kompany's assistant at Turf Moor between 2022 and 2024. 'Even last year, I tried to buy him for Burnley, so I'm fully aware of him. 'You might see it (Kpakio leaving Cardiff) this year. I don't think it will just be them (interested). 'His progression has been outstanding. I think his potential can be ridiculously high. 'He's very athletic, very intelligent. If he wasn't injured, I would have had him here in March.' Aaron Ramsey named Cardiff City interim manager following Omer Riza exit
Aaron Ramsey has been appoitnted Cardiff City's interim first-team manager for the remainder of the season following the sacking of Omer Riza. Riza, 45, was dismissed following Friday's 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United. The defeat left Cardiff second-from-bottom in the Championship, one point from safety with three league games to play. Advertisement The club have announced that central midfielder Ramsey, whose former clubs include Arsenal and Juventus, will oversee the club's final league fixtures in a bid to avoid relegation to League One, the third tier of English football. 'Aaron Ramsey will lead the club for the remaining three games of the Championship season, beginning with Monday's match at home to Oxford United,' Cardiff said on Saturday. 'Chris Gunter, Joe Ralls, Tom Hutton, Matthew Bloxham, and Gavin Ward will join Aaron in the technical area. 'We'd like to thank Omer for his passion and effort during his time as Cardiff City manager and wish him the very best for his next steps in the game.' Cardiff City FC can confirm that Omer Riza has been relieved of his duties as First Team Manager. Aaron Ramsey will lead the Club for the remaining three games of the Championship season, beginning with Monday's match at home to Oxford United.#CityAsOne — Cardiff City FC (@CardiffCityFC) April 19, 2025 Riza, who was appointed Cardiff assistant manager in July 2024, replaced Erol Bulut in September before being handed the role permanently in December. However, he leaves Cardiff after 28 games in permanent charge. 34-year-old Ramsey rejoined his boyhood club in the summer of 2023 but he has been limited to just ten appearances in all competitions this season due to injury setbacks. Cardiff face Oxford United on April 21, West Bromwich Albion five days later and then conclude their season on May 3 away to Norwich City. ()
