Miss World pageant: Nizam's kin disappointed over govt. keeping them out of Chowmahalla Palace dinner
The direct descendants of Nizam VII, Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, have expressed disappointment over their exclusion from the welcome dinner organised at Chowmahalla Palace as part of the Miss World 2025 pageant. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and copies marked to the Minister of Tourism and Tourism Secretary, one of the grandsons of the last Nizam, Mir Najaf Ali Khan, said on Tuesday that it was unfortunate that the direct descendants of the last Nizam were not invited for the dinner organised at Chowmahalla Palace, one of the historic properties and legacies of their forefathers. 'It is regrettable that the heirs of the last Nizam, whose legacy, vision and generosity continue to shape the cultural and historical identity of Hyderabad, were excluded from an event of international prominence and that too being held at a palace owned by him (the last Nizam). Hyderabad has always been globally recognised for its rich cultural heritage, royal hospitality and delectable cuisine – the legacies that we owe much to the contributions of the Nizam's dynasty,' Mr. Najaf Ali Khan said, adding that Chowmahalla Palace was owned by his grandfather and he was currently pursuing a partition suit with respect to the said property, pending adjudication before the City Civil Court. He appealed to the Chief Minister to respect the rightful sentiments and legal standing of the Nizam's family while organising events of significance in future.

Special Court directs former IAS officer Sagayam to appear through videolink
The Special Court dealing with Cases of Offences in Contravention of the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act in Madurai on Monday directed former IAS officer U. Sagayam to appear through Video-Conference from City Civil Court in Chennai for the hearing in the cases related to the granite scam in Madurai district. Special Court Judge N. Logeswaran directed that a letter be issued to the Principal District Judge, Chennai, to make arrangements in this regard and issued fresh summons to Mr. Sagayam. The court posted the matter for hearing on June 6. The court was hearing the cases related to the granite scam reported in Madurai district. Earlier, the former IAS officer had written to the Special Public Prosecutor, Special Court for Mines and Minerals cases, stating that he was unable to appear before the Special Court to provide evidence in the cases. He had cited a threat to his life. Mr. Sagayam said he was provided protection as per a High Court order due to threat to his life following his appointment as a Special Officer to probe the granite scam. However, it was withdrawn by the State. He said that withdrawal of security was unfair. Following the letter written by Mr. Sagayam, the Director General of Police had assured that adequate security, depending on the threats, would be provided to Mr. Sagayam, to enable him to appear before the Special Court.

With court order in tow, HYDRA kickstarts works at Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet
Hyderabad: Ahead of Bathukamma festival, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) on Wednesday launched development works at Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet, after the court cleared the way for restoration. HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath performed a special puja at the site, marking the beginning of the work. He instructed officials to expedite the restoration, development and beautification of the tank. He stated that the tank would be ready in time for the festival. He urged residents to support the efforts; and locals assured their full cooperation. The development comes a day after the City Civil Court delivered a significant ruling in favour of HYDRA. The court had dismissed a civil suit filed by Y Sudhakar Reddy who claimed land ownership. The judge declared Bathukamma Kunta a heritage site, not a private reservoir, based on revenue records, village maps, satellite images, and Survey of India data presented by HYDRA legal team. HYDRA officials said the judgment removes all legal hurdles, allowing work to proceed without any delay. Ranganath welcomed the ruling and congratulated the team that argued the case, including standing counsel members K Anil Kumar, S Srinivas, B Ajay, government advocate B Janardhan, HYDRA inspector Mohan, and legal advisor Srinivas. Meanwhile, HYDRA took up developmental of six lakes including Sunnam Cheruvu, Tammidikunta Cheruvu, Kukatpally Nallacheruvu, Uppal Nallacheruvu, Bum-Rukh-Ud-Daula Lake and Bathukamma Kunta. This was among the six lakes undertaken by HYDRA in the first phase for restoration work worth Rs 58.50 crore. The projects are funded by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). Work on Bathukamma Kunta initially began on February 18. During early excavation, water emerged from beneath the tank bed, reaffirming the site's status as a living water body.

Court dismisses claim on Hyderabad's Bathukamma Kunta, rules in favour of HYDRAA certifying it as lake
The hurdles for restoration of Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet were removed on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) when the City Civil Court ruled in favour of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), certifying it as a lake. A civil suit filed by one Yedla Sudhakar Reddy claiming that the land was his, and not a lake has been dismissed by the court, a press release from HYDRAA said. The verdict has vindicated HYDRAA's contention that it was a lake as proven by the gush of water in a few feet below ground when attempts at restoration began in February this year, it said. Lake reduced from 14 acres to five acres Bathukamma Kunta's original extent of 14 acres as per the records of 1962-63 has been a victim of several encroachments, eventually restricted to over five acres. Local residents approached HYDRAA requesting its chief A.V. Ranganath to restore the lake, after which the civil works were taken up, the note said. The court based its judgement on Revenue records, village maps, Survey of India records and satellite images, the note said. A team of lawyers representing HYDRAA were appreciated by Mr. Ranganath.
