Terre Haute City Council votes against multi-family housing project
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Tonight, the Terre Haute City Council voted against a multi-family housing project near Ohio Boulevard and Deming Park.
The council said it took the community's concerns very seriously and voted 7 to 2 against the development. Todd Nation, President of the Terre Haute City Council said it was the right project and the wrong place.
Nation said the community has been clear and consistent about how it feels about this development. He also said he hopes the developer will go back to the drawing board. Community member Shep Poland said the outcome of today's meeting is better than he could have hoped.
'It's a residential district that is a really nice neighborhood right now and we just, the group, is a neighborhood. We did not want the apartments they were planning there,' said Poland.
The City Counsil tabled the two Tax Increment Finance Districts until August 7th.
