Saquon Barkley says his eventual retirement will probably be 'out of nowhere'

Saquon Barkley says his eventual retirement will probably be 'out of nowhere' Show Caption Hide Caption Five NFL games we can't wait to watch in the 2025 season The NFL schedule for the 2025-2026 season has been released. Here are a few games on our must-watch list. Saquon Barkley isn't hanging up his cleats yet, but don't expect to have a warning before he does. The Philadelphia Eagles running back dazzled during his first season in the City of Brotherly Love, playing a big role in delivering the second Super Bowl victory in franchise history. During the June 4th episode of the "Green Light with Chris Long" podcast, Barkley made a different headline this time after he was asked about retirement. The former Eagles defensive end, Long, posed the question about how the star running back will one day walk away from the game. "I'll probably be one of those guys that it'll be out of nowhere," Barkley said. "I'll probably just wake up one day, whether it's next year or two years or four years, and just be like, 'Yeah, it's over.'" While it seems unlikely that retirement could come in the near future for Barkley, it could sound alarms in Philadelphia given the recent run of players calling it an early career. Most recently, it was 29-year-old Frank Ragnow that opted for retirement. The now-former Detroit Lions center was arguably the best in the sport at his position, but said he plans to prioritize is health now. In terms of passion for the game, however, Barkley doesn't envision losing that anytime soon. "I don't think I will ever lose that passion," Barkley said. "I'm just a competitor." He added that the competitive nature will always be there, but likened his eventual retirement to Barry Sanders, who shockingly stepped away from the game after just 10 seasons. The Lions Hall of Fame running back retired at age 30. "One of my favorite players of all time, probably my favorite player of all time, is Barry Sanders, so probably similar to that," Barkley said. "Maybe one day it'll be out of nowhere. I'll probably be ballin' and just be like, yeah, call it quits." Barkley has certainly achieved plenty in his career to this point. He has won a Super Bowl and was named an All-Pro, the Offensive Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and selected to the Pro Bowl three times. In 2024, he was just 101 yards away from setting the NFL's all-time single season rushing record. Despite that lengthy list of accomplishments, Barkley is still just 28 and only has seven seasons under his belt. If Barkley is using Sanders as a reference, that means he feels he still has some unfinished business – even if he's already checked off most of the boxes.

Delaware company behind the trolling billboard in Kansas City thanks Eagles and Chiefs fans

When trolling for a good cause benefits both Super Bowl teams' charities, everyone wins. The Delaware-based media company that had a "trolling billboard" for Chiefs fans near Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, last week is now saying thanks. Being a class act and displaying what the "City of Brotherly Love" is known for, Aloysius Butler & Clark replaced the 816-323-GO KC billboard by saying "Hey, KC, Thanks for Answering the Call" over the weekend. There is also a billboard near the Lincoln Financial Field with a similar message. In a release on Sunday before the Super Bowl, AB&C said in a release that with the overwhelming response to the original campaign going viral, the company donated $2,500 each to the Eagles Autism Foundation and the Kansas City's Hunt Family Foundation. Drivers along I-435 in the Kansas City area on Feb. 4 witnessed the original billboard with the message, "816-323-GO KC — call for a pep rally in your pocket." Now, what happened when you called? The Eagles' "Fly, Eagles Fly" fight song graced people's ears. AB&C pledged to donate $1 per call to both foundations with a maximum of $2,500 each, as stated in the release. The trolling billboard was a success with fans calling in and showing support for their teams after going viral. "The response has been overwhelming and amazing to watch," said Steve Merino, AB&C's chief creative officer in the release. "Whether people were taking part because of their spirit of competition, out of curiosity or to support the cause, we achieved what we set out to do. Both cities win. Now we just want to say thanks."

10 Songs That Celebrate the Sound of Philadelphia

Image Patti LaBelle Credit... Michael Reynolds/EPA, via Shutterstock Over the weekend, I made a solemn vow to the football gods: If the Eagles won the Super Bowl, then the next Amplifier playlist would be made up entirely of songs by artists from Philadelphia. The football gods upheld their end of this bargain — in case you haven't heard, the Eagles absolutely trounced the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22 — so today I will uphold mine with 10 tracks from the City of Brotherly Love (and the brotherly shove). Across all sorts of genres, Philadelphia has a rich musical history and a vibrant musical present. The sound of Philadelphia soul defined the early 1970s (even David Bowie wanted a piece of the action), and its heirs adapted its influence into a neo-soul boom that took off in the late 1990s. Philly has long had a thriving underground music scene, too, as evidenced by its tight-knit indie-rock community and its reputation for eclectic, innovative hip-hop. This playlist is certainly not meant to be definitive. Since I limited myself to just 10 tracks, I tried to avoid the obvious, which is to say you will hear neither 'Motownphilly' nor the 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' theme song. Today's playlist does, however, feature some familiar local luminaries (Patti LaBelle, the Roots) alongside some younger artists (Jazmine Sullivan, Tierra Whack, Alex G) who are updating the sounds of the city for a new generation. I restrained myself from including the Eagles Victory Song, though, so I suppose you will be able to enjoy this playlist even if you are not a fan of the new N.F.L. champs. It definitely hits different if you're wearing your Kelly green, though. So fix yourself a cheese steak (wit or witout), pour yourself a tall glass of wooder and press play. Eagles' Super Bowl parade scheduled for Friday

February 10 - The City of Brotherly Love will celebrate their Super Bowl championship, appropriately, on Valentine's Day. City officials announced Monday that Philadelphia will hold a parade for the Eagles this Friday in honor of their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. "The City can confirm the Eagles' celebration will be on Friday, February 14," the city government's official X account posted. "Together, with the @Eagles, we will reveal more details soon." Those details, including the time and parade route, were not yet public. Philadelphia had some experience staging a Super Bowl parade eight years ago when the Eagles won their first championship in franchise history by beating the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII. It was a much more lopsided affair on Sunday when the Eagles beat the Chiefs 40-22 in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII. Eagles president Don Smolenski said during a radio interview on 94WIP that an incoming winter storm will affect the Philadelphia region Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday, and that played a role in selecting Friday. The celebrations overnight in Philadelphia led to a number of apprehensions and arrests, with police there saying five people were apprehended for assaulting officers and another is being investigated. Four other arrests were made: two for aggravated assault, one for reckless endangerment and one for disorderly conduct. --Field Level Media
