Voices rise in tribute to late activist
Mohlakeng Ramosa Hall was recently energised with spirit and vibrancy when Clap and Tap Gospel performed, featuring the hosts Living Hope alongside the popular ensemble of this genre, Lejoe La Motheo from Thembisa.
According to Living Hope founder and co-ordinator Hope Majadibodu, the concert was a tribute to the late political activist Dennis Mangope, who tragically passed away in 2022.
'Dennis was more than a friend to me, hence I saw it befitting to host an event of this magnitude for a dear friend.
We all grew together, and he also supported our stages and concerts. We were in the army,' said Hope.
The funeral service for Dennis appeared on After Tears, a reality show on Moja Love DStv channel 157, where Hope expressed his heartfelt reflections about his relationship with Dennis. Many members of the Clap and Tap audience could not restrain themselves and got up to dance and sing along with the Ekurhuleni-based choir, led by their iconic lead singer, Tebogo Chauke.
As is customary with Clap and Tap events, audience members were seen approaching the stage for an encore or simply to show appreciation for the music.
I'm at a loss for words to describe this gesture, but to just say I'm more than satisfied,' said Moipone Mangope, the wife of the late activist.
