Shocking alleged details emerge as a former AFL star is accused of jealousy-fuelled attack on MAFS ex-girlfriend
A former AFL star appeared in court on Thursday, having been charged with nine domestic violence-related charges following an alleged incident with his former girlfriend. Perth Magistrates Court that Ryan Crowley, 41, was accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend Lauren Dunn at a home in Claremont, WA, on Tuesday. Crowley is alleged to have strangled Dunn, a reality television star who had previously appeared on Married at First Sight, the court was told. Crowley is also alleged to have smothered her face with a pillow after he became incensed about email correspondence he found on her laptop with another person. Members of the court were told that Dunn, had invited him over to an apartment in Claremont, WA, on Tuesday evening. The court had been told that the pair had a stop-start relationship over a five-year period between 2018 and 2023. Dunn lives in Sydney and had asked her former partner if he wanted to catch up. Following his arrival, the pair were embroiled in a verbal dispute, with Dunn asking Crowley to leave more than once, but he continually refused. Dunn then called triple-0, but Crowley allegedly threatened her as she attempted to dial the emergency services. Terrified, Dunn told the operator that the call was made in error and hung up. Crowley, who made 188 appearances for Fremantle and eight for Essendon, had allegedly taken Dunn's phone before finding her laptop. Upon logging into the computer, he allegedly searched through her correspondence on the machine. Prosecutors said the former footy player found messages between her and another man, prompting him to allegedly throw the victim to the floor. He allegedly strangled Dunn who lost consciousness before Crowley let go, the court heard. Upon coming back around, Dunn began to cry for help, but Crowley had allegedly proceeded to choke her again. It is also alleged that Crowley later violently shook her slamming her head onto the floor multiple times. Crowley, who was drafted as a No 55 pick to Fremantle in the 2002 draft, later refused her requests to leave the house, instead sitting on her sofa and asking her to 'cuddle him'. The court also heard he had again refused to leave, instead staying over at the home that night, before allegedly stopping her from leaving in the morning. Upon her attempts to leave the home, Crowley had allegedly blocked her exit. She shouted out again for help, but as she tried to leave, Crowley allegedly scratched her midriff. The court heard that he had again allegedly pinned her down, grabbed her throat and squeezed her neck while covering her mouth to prevent her from breathing. He is also alleged to have pressed a pillow into her face. Crowley eventually stopped, after Dunn had lost consciousness once again. Dunn, a PR consultant who has over 246,000 followers on Instagram, had pleaded with the accused to give her her phone back, but was fearful of provoking him. She then escaped the home via the bathroom, running to a nearby cafe, where the court was told she was able to message a friend. Crowley was subsequently arrested at Perth Train Station and charged. Crowley denied the severity of the allegations during the court hearing. His lawyer also said the former football player had disputed the physical contact between the pair. Crowley was granted bail with a $20,000 surety and was ordered not to leave Western Australia. As part of his bail conditions, he is prohibited from contacting Dunn. Crowley will now appear in court again on July 24. Ex-Docker Ryan Crowley charged with assaulting MAFS star Lauren Dunn
CAUTION: GRAPHIC CONTENT Former Fremantle midfielder Ryan Crowley has appeared in court on Thursday after he was hit with a string of domestic violence related charges involving his ex-girlfriend, Married At First Sight star Lauren Dunn. The Perth Magistrates Court heard Crowley, 41, got into a verbal disagreement with Dunn at her Claremont apartment on Tuesday evening, as reported by 7NEWS. It has been alleged the argument escalated and the former Docker refused to leave. Dunn reportedly called police before she opted not to continue with the call. Crowley allegedly took Dunn's phone and laptop and became enraged when he discovered an email between Dunn and another man. He is then accused of throwing the 34-year-old to the floor, shaking her, slamming her head on the ground multiple times and smothered her with a pillow, forcing her to lose consciousness. At one stage the court was told Dunn cried out for help before she was assaulted again. Crowley allegedly stayed the night at Dunn's apartment and prevented her from leaving the following morning, before she was finally able to escape and called for help. Crowley, the Dockers' player of the year in 2012, was later arrested at Perth Train Station and hit with nine domestic violence charges. The charges include impeding Dunn's breathing by applying pressure to her neck, making threats, unlawfully using a computer and deprivation of liberty in circumstances of aggravation. He has denied all charges and is expected to fight the allegations. The 196-game AFL veteran was granted bail and must not contact Dunn under his bail conditions. He is due to next appear in court on July 24. The pair were in an on-again, off-again relationship from 2018 to 2023. Drafted back in 2002, Crawley spent the majority of his career with the Dockers, appearing in 188 games and kicking 117 goals and earning Life Member status with the club. Appearing in Fremantle's 2013 grand final loss to Hawthorn, Crowley was suspended for 12 months after testing positive to a banned substance in 2015 and spent one season with the Bombers before retiring. He joined Essendon as a top-up player following the club's supplement saga. Dunn, a public relations and marketing consultant, appeared in season 11 of MAFS in 2024. She married health business owner Jonathan McCullough before they later opted not to stay together.

Former Fremantle Docker Ryan Crowley faces court on choking, deprivation of liberty charges
Former Fremantle Dockers player Ryan Crowley has appeared in a Perth court charged with multiple violent offences including assault and deprivation of liberty. It is alleged Mr Crowley choked and threatened a woman in the western Perth suburb of Claremont this week. The 41-year-old is facing nine charges including impeding the woman's breathing by applying pressure to her neck, making threats, unlawfully using a computer and deprivation of liberty in circumstances of aggravation. The police prosecutor told Perth Magistrates Court the alleged offending was "too serious for bail". He handed photos of the woman's alleged injuries to Magistrate Adam Hills-Wright, telling the court of bruising on her chest and her nail being "ripped off a finger". However, Mr Crowley's lawyer said his client would dispute the level of contact with the alleged victim. Magistrate Hills-Wright said Mr Crowley had "no relevant record" and it was likely there would be a "significant period of time" before trial. He said it was too early to determine how strong the case may be. Mr Crowley was granted bail under strict conditions, which include reporting to police twice a week and not leaving the state. He cannot go near the alleged victim, who the court was told lived interstate but was a "frequent visitor" to WA. Mr Crowley was ordered to provide a $20,000 personal undertaking and the same amount in surety. He is next scheduled to appear in court in July. Mr Crowley played 188 games for the Dockers between 2003 and 2015, including the 2013 grand final which Fremantle lost to Hawthorn. He was routinely used as a tagger, trying to limit the influence of the opposition's most dangerous midfielder. In 2015 he was suspended for 12 months by the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal after he tested positive to a "specified" substance the previous year. At a media conference, then Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich confirmed the substance was contained in a painkiller which had not been not prescribed by a Fremantle doctor. He was later recruited by Essendon to help the club field a side while 34 of its players were suspended for the year, following its infamous supplements scandal.

This crossbody is actually a sophisticated DSLR camera bag in disguise — it was the only purse I used for a 12-day trip to France
Years ago, I invested in a DSLR camera. While iPhone photos suffice most of the time, they aren't always able to capture the truest representations of an experience the way a dedicated camera can. What I didn't anticipate was how clunky owning a "real" camera really is, or how unattractive most of the necessary accessories are. If I wanted to bring my camera anywhere — either to a local NYC exhibit or on a tiring, sweaty day of tourism abroad — I had to pick between three equally unappealing options: commit to buying and carrying a heavy briefcase-like camera bag, throw it haphazardly into a backpack with the rest of my loose possessions, or wear the DSLR around my neck like an expensive rock necktie. But before one trip abroad, I stumbled across a camera bag that solved virtually all of my usability problems: the Lo & Sons Claremont. It's the unlikely Goldilocks design for anyone who wants the usability of a functional nylon camera bag, but can't quite compromise on either the weight of such a bag or utilitarian, proud-dad-at-middle-school-dance look. Design The Claremont hails from the buzzy bag startup Lo & Sons — a brand that we've reviewed extensively in our guide to the best Lo & Sons bags — and is sculpted out of soft full-grain leather. Up close, it looks indistinguishable from any other high-end purse (it won't scream "steal me, there's a camera inside"), but was designed specifically to schlep a DSLR. Inside, the bag has a plush quilted lining, pockets for two extra memory cards, and a removable divider to separate the camera from an extra lens. It comes in four versatile colors (black, navy, light grey, and sienna brown) to go with any outfits you pack for that three-week-long trip, and an external pocket can house everything from lip balm to your wallet and/or passport for easy access. What it's like to use On my trip, I used The Claremont as both a travel purse and camera bag interchangeably. For a vacation that ranged from the dress code of upscale bars in Paris to lazily biking city streets in the French Riviera, The Claremont worked seamlessly — meaning I also didn't need to waste space packing a second purse. For how much it holds, the bag is deceptively small — no bigger than a roomy crossbody. At the airport, it held a small book, phone charger, travel wallet, and keychain inside. Externally, my passport, lip balm, and main cards remained handy in its zipped outside pocket. On long tourist days, it packed lip balm and cards in the external pocket, and my DSLR, two extra memory cards, sunglasses, and a small travel wallet inside. It's also deceptively lightweight. Even though it feels substantial and well-cushioned, it didn't feel like it added any more weight than a standard crossbody bag would. Cons to consider At $368, it's still an expensive purchase for an already expensive tool. But, if you're like me, it might be worth it for the usability of a camera bag that's essentially an everyday purse tricked out for a DSLR. However, if you're looking for a camera bag with room to spare, this probably isn't for you. It can fit a small extra lens, but you'll probably have to rearrange things to get your camera out if you're planning to stack sunglasses and a wallet inside as well. For me, this was ultimately a small price to pay for the convenience and look of the bag. Another con to consider is that it's not quite roomy enough to use as a personal item bag. Instead, you'll want to pack this bag within your carry-on luggage, and you'll have to be careful that it's packed securely enough not to squish or strain your expensive equipment. It's also a bit bulky for the days you might be heading out without a camera; in our guide to the best crossbody bags we recommend Lo & Sons' Aoyama bag for an everyday option. The bottom line All in all, the Claremont has been the perfect model of a subtle camera bag, and it's been ideal for someone who wants to use their DSLR often but isn't willing to compromise on style or comfort in order to do so. It's a steep price, but it's worth it to me if you're willing to spend the same amount altogether on a travel crossbody and a camera bag you may be inspired to use far less often. After getting it, I've brought my DSLR out for days in Central Park and international vacations — and I can't remember the last time I thought to do that before.

Neighbors at odds over proposed Claremont housing development
A group of neighbors are at odds over the proposed housing development that may soon replace some old tennis courts in Claremont in coming months. The development, which is called the City Ventures Indian Hill Project, would bring 70 three-story high townhomes to the small parcel of land located on W. American Avenue and Indian Hill Boulevard. The latter eventually feeds onto the always busy 10 Freeway. Neighbors are concerned that the area, which already sees a lot of traffic, will become even more crowded. They're hoping that city leaders are able to either reject the proposal during a meeting Tuesday, or provide some further clarity on the matter. "I'm not completely opposed to this," said Darvin Gomez. "We just want something that's reasonable and that fits ... that respects our neighborhood." He's one of the many that gathered to speak up during the meeting on Tuesday. An artist's rendering of the proposed housing development. City of Claremont According to Claremont's city website and renderings provided by the developer, each of the new units would come with two-car garages and 11 guest spaces. The entire neighborhood however, would have just one entrance from W. American Avenue. "It's safety. Because this area is really, really bad for traffic, really bad where you can't move as is," said Bryan Trunik, another neighbor. "Then, they wanna put 70 more units in right here on the corner and only have one entrance in and out." The entire debacle isn't just a Claremont issue either, as Pomona residents have also joined the opposition to the development, as their city is located on the other side of the street. "We're a community of Claremont and Pomona. We do not want to see this happen," said Alice Gomez. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has already approved one entrance design, which Claremont acknowledges is a congested area with growing commercial space. Their studies, however, show that the number of units won't significantly impact the flow of traffic, something that neighbors highly disagree with. "We're already having issues with parking already," said Pomona City Council member Elizabeth Ontiveros-Cole. "That's my concern." Claremont council members will vote on the development on Tuesday night.
