Bridgeport and Clarksburg-Harrison Libraries partner to host community resource fair

BRIDGEPORT, (WBOY) — The Bridgeport Public Library, in partnership with the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library, hosted a collaborative event Wednesday night designed to serve as a comprehensive, one-stop resource hub for the community. This initiative brought together a diverse array of organizations under one roof, offering residents easy access to support services, educational resources, health and wellness programs, and community information. Library officials told 12 News that the event was not only meant to be informative but also engaging, as attendees were automatically entered into a special drawing to win a hanging flower basket, simply for stopping by. Upshur Leadership graduating class holds Community Skills Share event 'So, we brought all these organizations here so that way no matter what you're looking for, no matter your situation is in life here, we have someone here to connect you with resources to help you,' the Community Engagement Manager at the Bridgeport Public Library, Angela Spatafore, said. Kelly Miller Community Center hosts kids event celebrating Black History Month

CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — The Kelly Miller Community Center and the Clarksburg Harrison Public Library hosted 'A Kid's Journey Through Black History' as part of their Black History Month celebration at the center on Friday. The event featured a reading of Goodnight Racism, a book about an African American child's realization of racism, as well as interactive activity stations, read-aloud sessions, and a question and answer discussion. Attendees also had the chance to win door prizes and enjoyed complimentary snacks and dinner. West Virginia school districts begin making up snow days in June Volunteer Program Director for the Kelly Miller Community Center Sherri James told 12 News why the event is so important. 'We think that it's important to make sure that kids understand what happened in the past so that as they grow and become adult humans that they understand that we are all equal and that we should all work together,' James said. 'It's not just about one race, we're all a human race.' James shared that engaging children in fun and exciting crafts and activities while teaching them about Black history is a meaningful way to celebrate Black History Month and highlight its importance.
