Hope Gas to begin months-long pipeline project in Clarksburg

CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — Hope Gas and the Clarksburg Water Board are beginning projects this month that are expected to impacts roads in downtown Clarksburg for seven months. Hope Gas said in a press release Tuesday that it will begin a major pipeline construction project 'in late February,' although no exact date was given. The project will replace about 6.5 miles of natural gas pipeline from the 1950s along E. Main and W. Pike Streets. Construction will take place between the intersection of W. Pike Street and Milford Street near Wendy's and the intersection of E. Main Street and Harrison Street, with active construction taking place Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., although some paving could take place during the day as well. Traffic will be maintained by a traffic control vendor, the release said. 'The Canteen' owners looking to sell restaurant Work on the project is weather dependent, but Hope Gas said it anticipates the project will be completed in fall 2025. Work will start near Main Street and then move down W. Pike Street to near Milford Street. This project comes less than a month after a house served by Hope Gas exploded in Clarksburg, killing one resident and displacing a neighborhood for several days. During the project, the Clarksburg Water Board will also be upgrading water and sewer systems in the same area. 'This coordinated effort will reduce the need for multiple street restorations and minimize inconveniences caused by construction activities as much as possible,' the release said. The work is part of a larger Hope Gas Pipeline Replacement and Expansion Program (PREP) that has been upgrading pipe across its service area since 2016 with products that are more durable and resistant to corrosion to make service safer and more reliable.
