Two held for gunning bizman down in Ghaziabad's RNE, pistol recovered too

G haziabad: Five days after businessman Rahul Dagar was shot dead outside a highrise society in Raj Nagar Extension, police arrested two men in connection with the case on Friday. On June 1, six gunmen came in a car and shot at Rahul Dagar, who ran a hotel in Uttarakhand's Haldwani, and his nephew Ashish outside Classic Residency around 9.30 pm. Rahul succumbed to a bullet injury he received in the stomach, while Ashish was hit on the leg. His brother-in-law Avinash, who was also at the spot, later identified Dagar's business partner, Nagendra Chaudhary, and three other attackers – Mohit Chaudhary, Ritesh Bindal, and a man known as Mantri as their attackers in the police complaint. ACP Nandgram Poonam Mishra said Ritesh Bindal (37), alias Lala, and Mohit Chaudhary (42), the prime accused, were arrested around 200m from UCO Bank on the road leading from LT Chauraha towards Rajnagar Extension. A .32 bore pistol used in the crime, along with two live cartridges and one spent cartridge, were also recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed Dagar was a business partner of Nagendra and Manish. After a dispute over financial matters, however, Mohit and Nagendra started their own business. "They said Dagar had another dispute with Mohit over financial matters a week ago, which led to a fight where Mohit's wife was also present. After this, Mohit decided to take revenge," the ACP said. Ritesh claimed he borrowed Rs 6 lakh from Dagar. While he had paid back the amount, he was unable to pay back the interest due to a health emergency. While Bindal attempted to assure Dagar that he would pay him back, Dagar allegedly visited Bindal's house and harassed his family. Bindal lodged a police complaint alleging Dagar and Avinash barged into his house with weapons and misbehaved with his family. An FIR was subsequently registered against the two under BNS sections 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) on May 31, a day before the shooting. According to the ACP, accused Nagendra, Mohit, Rohit Sharma, Pradeep Sharma, Manish, and one unknown person had gathered at Ritesh's electronics shop near Classic Residency on June 1 prior to the murder. They consumed alcohol and planned to kill Dagar. Mohit called up Dagar and a heated argument ensued. Later, Mohit asked Dagar to meet. They attacked Dagar, who was shot twice during the altercation, and killed on the spot. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !

48 hours after Ghaziabad shooting, cops yet to track key suspect

Ghaziabad: Nearly 48 hours after businessman Rahul Dagar was shot dead outside a highrise in Ghaziabad's Raj Nagar Extension, cops have searched more than 20 possible hideouts of the suspects and detained five persons for questioning, but are yet to arrest his business partner, the key accused in the case, or the six others named in the FIR. Senior officials said they are keeping a watch on airports to ensure the accused don't leave the country. Six gunmen had come in a car and shot Rahul, who owns a hotel at Haldwani in Uttarakhand, and his nephew Ashish just outside their society, Classic Residency, around 9.30 pm on Sunday. Rahul died on the spot after a bullet hit him in the stomach. Ashish, who was hit on the leg, continues to be under treatment. Rahul's brother-in-law Avinash, who was also present at the spot and assaulted by the criminals, had identified the hotelier's business partner Nagendra Chaudhary and three other attackers—Mohit Chaudhary, Ritesh Bindal and a man who goes by the name Mantri—in his complaint. He claimed Nagendra and his brother Manish were Rahul's business partners and had a fallout with him over managing the finances of their hotel, Shiva Palace, and had even threatened him a few days before the murder. "Nagendra, Mohit, Mantri, Ritesh and two other men pulled up outside the society in a car. First, they assaulted Rahul and Ashish. They turned to me as I started shouting for help. Then, right before my eyes, Nagendra and Mohit shot at Rahul and Ashish. Rahul had immediately collapsed to the ground, but Mohit sat on his chest and tried to strangle him," the complaint filed by Avinash stated. On Tuesday, ACP Nandgram Poonam Mishra said police have reviewed footage of CCTV cameras installed near the commercial complex outside the society. The officer said one of the men, Mohit Chaudhary, can be seen firing at Rahul in one of the feeds. It also showed him trying to strangle Rahul, even as he lay bleeding on the ground. "Six of the accused are absconding. More than five teams are looking for them. We detained Ritesh Bindal on Monday. He was called in for questioning again on Tuesday. The man has multiple businesses, like real estate and electronics, and has an office in Classic Residency's commercial area. His call details show that he was at the crime spot on Sunday evening when Rahul Dagar was murdered. We are trying to ascertain his role in the case," the ACP said. Earlier, police told TOI that Ritesh had filed an FIR against Rahul and Avinash on May 31, a day before the shooting, accusing the two men of barging into his house with weapons and misbehaving with his family. The FIR was lodged under BNS sections 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). Besides Ritesh, four other persons have been detained for questioning, too, police said. A senior police officer told TOI that Mohit frequently travelled to Duba,i and cops have alerted the Airports Authority of India about the suspect. Since Monday, police have also searched more than 20 places across Delhi-NCR, but no arrests have been made yet. While Rahul's business partner Nagendra is the key suspect in the case, the FIR also names his brother Manish and five others: Mohit, Ritesh, Mantri, and two unknown persons. The case has been file under BNS sections 103 (murder), 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 191 (2) (rioting), 191 (3) (rioting, armed with deadly weapon).

Ghaziabad hotelier murder: Killers at large, cops widen search

Three dedicated police teams are working on the case, acting on inputs provided by Ritesh Bindal, one of the named accused arrested on June 2. Multiple raids are underway in Ghaziabad and Haridwar in Uttarakhand as suspects remain untraceable, police officials said on Tuesday. Ghaziabad, Jun 3 (PTI) Ghaziabad Police, which is yet to apprehend the prime suspect for the murder of a hotelier in the city's Rajnagar Extension area which took place a couple of days ago, has widened its search in neighbouring Uttarakhand. 'Raids are ongoing and we are confident the remaining accused will be nabbed soon,' DCP (City Zone) Dhawal Jaiswal said. Rahul Dagar, 32, was gunned down at around 9.30 pm on June 1 near 'Classic Residency' in the Rajnagar Extension area. His nephew 26-year-old Ashish is recovering from a bullet wound he sustained on his leg. The police said a monetary dispute linked to a hotel business in Haldwani seems to be the motive behind the crime. Dagar recently entered into a partnership with one Nagendra Chaudhary, his brother Manish Chaudhary, and Sonia to open a hotel in Haldwani. Tensions reportedly arose when Rahul and Sonia's husband Sachin Sharma, who also managed the hotel, confronted Nagendra and Manish over large sums of money allegedly being siphoned off into their personal accounts, according to police. The police said that the confrontation turned fatal when Nagendra and Mohit Chaudhary allegedly opened fire, hitting Rahul in the chest and Ashish in the leg. The attackers fled as bystanders began to gather. A case was registered by Nandgram Police Station under several BNS Sections including 103 (murder), 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (causing hurt), 190 and 191(2) (unlawful assembly and rioting), and 193(3) (rioting with deadly weapons). The FIR named Nagendra, Manish, Mohit, Ritesh Bindal, and one Mantri, along with two unidentified accomplices, the police said. Avinash Sirohi, who filed the complaint, told police that four to five rounds were fired during the altercation. ACP (Nandgram) Poonam Mishra, the post-mortem report confirmed that one bullet remained lodged in Rahul's stomach while another pierced through his throat, proving fatal. Hotelier shot dead outside Ghaziabad condo gate, business partner main suspect

1 2 Ghaziabad: In a mob-style hit, a 35-year-old businessman was shot dead near the gates of his housing society in Raj Nagar Extension on Sunday night. Police said on Monday they had taken one suspect into custody and were looking for six others. The victim's business partner is the prime suspect. The gunmen came in a car that halted in front of Rahul Dagar, who owns a hotel at Haldwani in Uttarakhand, and his nephew Ashish just as they had stepped outside Classic Residency around 9.30 pm. Rahul died on the spot to a bullet injury he received in the stomach. Ashish was hit on the leg but survived. Rahul's brother-in-law Avinash Sirohi, who was nearby and also assaulted by the gunmen, claimed one of the attackers was the hotelier's business partner Nagendra Chaudhary. He also identified three other attackers as Mohit Chaudhary, Ritesh Bindal and a man who goes by the name Mantri. Ritesh has since been tracked and apprehended. Avinash claimed that Rahul, Nagendra, his brother Manish and their fourth partner recently had a fallout over managing the finances of their hotel, Shiva Palace. "Rahul opened the hotel with Nagendra, Manish and Sonia Bajaj. Recently, Rahul and Sonia's husband Sachin Sharma, the hotel's manager, had a disagreement with the Chaudhary brothers when they found Nagendra had been diverting the hotel's earnings to his personal account," Avinash stated in the complaint he filed at Nandgram police station. According to the complainant, around 9.15 pm on Sunday, Nagendra called Rahul and the two had a heated argument. "Nagendra kept threatening him with consequences. So, Rahul asked him to meet him outside Classic Residency. Around 5-7 minutes later, Nagendra, Mohit, Mantri, Ritesh and two other men pulled up outside the society in a car. First, they assaulted Rahul and Ashish. They turned to me as I started shouting for help. Then, right before my eyes, Nagendra and Mohit shot at Rahul and Ashish. Rahul had immediately collapsed to the ground, but Mohit sat on his chest and tried to strangle him," Avinash said. "Ashish was writhing in pain as the bullet had hit his leg, but Ritesh and Mantri kept telling the two brothers to kill him and the men and get to the car," the complainant claimed. The two survived the attack as people started to gather outside the society, and assailants fled in their car. DCP (City) Dhawal Jaiswal told TOI that FIR had been registered against seven persons, including the Chaudhary brothers Nagendra and Manish, Mohit, Ritesh, Mantri and two unknown persons under the BNS sections 103 (murder), 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 191 (2) (rioting), 191 (3) (rioting, armed with deadly weapon). "Five teams were set up to track the accused. Ritesh was taken into police custody and is still being questioned to understand his role in the shootout," the officer said. The DCP said initial investigations revealed the two groups, or at least four to six of them, had dinner at a restaurant in Raj Nagar Extension on Sunday evening. A dispute broke out between the men after they left the restaurant. Police also claimed that a day before Rahul's murder, an FIR was filed against him and Avinash after a complaint was submitted by Ritesh, who claimed the two men had barged into his house last week with weapons and misbehaved with his family. ACP Nandgram Poonam Mishra said Ritesh owed Avinash Rs 5 lakh and Rahul another Rs 6.5 lakh. In his complaint, Ritesh claimed he had repaid the money, but on May 30, the two men barged into his house when he was not around and threatened his family. He also accused them of calling his wife and threatening to kill his son. The FIR was lodged under BNS sections 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), the ACP said.
