Bullets fly at upscale Oakland restaurant

OAKLAND, Calif. - An investigation is underway in Oakland after a shooting inside an upscale restaurant injured two people. Officers responded to multiple calls Friday night at the southern cuisine restaurant Pierre Pierre on 13th Street near the Tribune Tower. A video posted Saturday on Instagram by chef and owner Cleashaun Hill shows what appeared to be blood on the floor and tables turned over. According to a GoFundMe posted by Hill, a man and a woman were shot and are both reportedly in stable condition. It's currently unclear what led to the shooting or how many suspects were involved. Local perspective Hill said in his fundraiser that the money raised will be used to enhance security and crisis response efforts for future operations and to also relocate Pierre Pierre to a safer area. KTVU reached out to both Hill and the Oakland Police Department, and this post will be updated if a response is received.

Woman shot at downtown Oakland restaurant

Oakland police are investigating a shooting at Pierre Pierre, an upscale steakhouse in the city's downtown core. A woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition after the shooting around 9 p.m. Friday, according to news reports. Shortly before midnight, Pierre Pierre's owner, chef Cleashaun Hill, posted footage on Instagram of the aftermath of the chaotic scene at the restaurant in the Tribune Tower. In the video, police tape can be seen roping off one table as numerous blood spatters mar the wood floor. 'This hurts,' Hill said in the video. 'I genuinely wanted to do something meaningful for us — for our people.' Hill was not immediately available for comment Saturday morning, nor were officials from the Oakland police or fire departments. Hill opened the steakhouse in December 2023 with his business partner, Florida rapper Pierre Delince, or Jackboy. Hill, who goes by 'Chef Cleaz,' is a San Francisco native who trained at Le Cordon Bleu and worked as a private chef and caterer for San Francisco 49ers players and celebrity musicians. On the restaurant's Yelp page, Hill described it 'not just a dining experience,' but a 'being a beacon of Black excellence, where every plate we serve is a testament to the rich heritage of our culture.' 'More than a restaurant, we're a space for community, culture, and fine dining, where every dish tells a story and every visit is a journey into the heart of our tradition,' he said. Hill chose the Tribune Tower on 13th Street because 'it's the most iconic building in Oakland,' he said in a 2023 interview with the San Francisco Business Times. The shooting left him shaken and questioning the restaurant's future. 'We deserve to have something that's ours. But the response I got makes me feel like giving up,' he said in his Instagram post. 'I'm disappointed, because my heart was really in this. RIP Pierre Pierre.'
